Out of curiosity, I checked those censuses (censi?) and she lived in New Rochelle in 1900, 1910, 1920. In 1930, she and her husband were gone, but her son with his wife were still in New Rochelle. This doesn't help figure out where she and her parents were before 1900, though. She should have been in the 1880 census if born in NY as she reports in all those censuses in 1875-1878 range. Could she have lied about her age? There's a Maggie Yakel in Albany in the 1880 census, born in 1868 of parents from Wurtenburg. Joy Thank you too. I am getting some good info from all of you. I remember my gmother lived with us -- my mother and father-- until I was 6.After that time she lived with a family named Hamburger in New Rochelle.I know she was still in NR until she died in 53. Have no idea about her husband. Can't remember that I ever saw him or knew of him.Did hear at one time that he was the Police Chief in NR or possibly just a police man not Chief.. Joy I rechecked my papers from Albany and they list my fathers mother as Maggie. No last name. Just Maggie. Do you suppose the Yakals were living in Albany before Haverstraw? Life was casual back then. The Albany parents were Leonard and Eliza and that Maggie was ten years older than yours would be. I don't think those were the parents someone found for you in Haverstraw, so I guess it's another Maggie.
