I lived in town of Butternuts, Otsego County, NY when I married;.....HOWEVER, I was married in city of Oneonta, Otsego County, NY...so the copy of my marriage license would be found in the city clerk's records, Oneonta, NY...or at the state level in Albany... same holds true for birth and death records. My grandmother died in the City of Oneonta, so again, her death record would be on file at the city of Oneonta clerk's office....HOWEVER, her "official residence" was in town of Guilford, Chenango County...so her will was filed at the Chenango County courthouse. same holds true for birth records...my sister lived in the town of Butternuts, Otsego County, but went to a hospital in Walton, Delaware County, NYS...so the birth records would be found at the village of Walton's clerks' office...NOT in the town of Butternuts... You have to be be very careful when looking for vital records. Easiest way might be to just write to vital records in Albany, NY, but that could take months...try the local level first. Cyndie
