    2. This list is for GENEALOGY and not politics. This is not the place for political Rhetoric/Propaganda !! I'm surprised the list manager is allowing this to go on... Any e-mail to me re this subject will be automatically deleted. Enough is enough. 1. Deaths at "Battle of Saratoga" - 1777 (KIDDER)
    2. Betty
    3. Hello again, I'd like to ask separately whether the State of NY recorded the deaths of the soldiers who died at the Battle of Saratoga -- IF the name of the soldier was known ! And, during the 1770's, would the death have been recorded both in NY and the State where the soldier resided when he died? Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. I've been looking for more information on a Joseph KIDDER who reportedly died in Saratoga in 1777 ! As per my other postings, out of 4 Joseph's who "might" have fought in the Revolutionary War, there appears to be only 2 who could have died in 1777: Joseph KIDDER, b1763 NH In 1777, Age ~14 Joseph KIDDER, b1720 CT In 1777, Age ~57 (Nothing else is known about Joseph, b1720, in the KIDDER book. The possibility exists that he died young.) (Joseph, b1763, was the brother of my ancestor. Nothing is known about him after 1777.) Another Joseph, b1761, was a first cousin of my ancestor, and he married in 1795. Another Joseph, b1741, was the long-time Minister in Dunstable, MA / Nashua, NH -- the Rev. Joseph KIDDER, who died there in 1818. Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA)

    1. Joseph KIDDER, 1777, Saratoga, NY (Con'td.)
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, I just checked the 1941 "KIDDER book" and the Joseph KIDDER mentioned as having been born in 1761 turns out to be a first-cousin of my ancestor, Calvin KIDDER, b1765, and his two brothers, Wilder and Joseph. The 3 KIDDER brothers who lived in New Ipswich and Temple, NH, as adults had 2 other brothers. Thomas (Cornet) KIDDER, the oldest brother, remained in the Westford, MA, area, and Francis KIDDER, the youngest brother, seems to have lived in both Concord, MA, and Tyngsboro, MA. And, Francis KIDDER, and his wife, Lucy _____, had 10 children. One of them was a son, Joseph KIDDER, b1761 in Concord, MA. The book says that this Joseph KIDDER had his name appear on the list of men who marched from Temple, NH, to Cambridge, MA, on the Alarm of April 19, 1775, and he was later on the roll of Capt. SMITH's Company, enlisted for service in NY, out of Col. Enoch HALE's Regiment, Sept. 21, 1776. The book also says that he had married for the second time to Huldah STILES of Temple, NH (b. Middleton, MA) in 1795. And, they had children born to them from 1795 to 1814, so he could not have been the soldier who died in NY in 1777. (Joseph and Huldah moved to Topsham, ME, at some point and remained there.) Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. The 4 Joseph KIDDER's mentioned in my other e-mail this morning were: Joseph KIDDER, b1720 CT, with no family information and no date of death. Joseph KIDDER, b1741 MA, who died "after 1777." Joseph KIDDER, b1763 NH, with no further information after 1777. Joseph KIDDER, b1761 MA, who married in 1795. So, the two choices for being the Joseph KIDDER who died at Saratoga, NY, were the man from CT at Age 57, or my ancestor's brother, the man from NH at Age 14 !!

    1. Joseph KIDDER, d1777 (Saratoga, NY?)
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, For several weeks I've been trying to find out (again) what happened to my KIDDER ancestor's two older brothers. The 3 were the only sons of Joseph and Rebecca (CHAMBERLAIN) KIDDER, originally of Chelmsford, MA, but who lived their married life in New Ipswich and Temple, NH. They also had 6 daughters.) The oldest son, Wilder KIDDER, b1753 NH, was a Fifer in the War, and fought at, for example, "Bunker Hill," "Saratoga," and "Valley Forge." We're slowly gathering information about his adult life. After living in NY and NJ and then coming back to NH, he and his NJ wife seem to have lived their last years in NH. We are trying to find out which town they died in (after 1820). The middle son was Joseph KIDDER, b1763 NH, and he is the one who seems to have fought in the War at a very young age ! And, nothing is known about him after 1777 ! We are thinking that he might have gone to Saratoga, NY, with his older brother - and died there ! But, I wrote to "the KIDDER expert" in FL, and this was his response: Here is what I found on Joseph Kidder who died....during the Rev. War. Private JOSEPH KIDDER served in a Massachusetts Regiment during the Revolutionary War. Joseph enlisted in Captain Abishai Brown's Company, of Colonel Josiah White's Regiment, as a private. His name appears on an abstract for advance pay, 24 June 1776, in Suffolk County. Joseph appears in petition date 17 September 1776 at Camp Hull, "said Kidder and others belonging to the Battalion stationed at Hull, asking for increase and payment of wages". Joseph Kidder in an order dated 10 July 1776, for advance pay, blanket money, travel, by said Kidder and others in Captain Brown's Company of Colonel Whitney's Regiment. He appeared on a list of men raised to serve in the Continental Army from Shrewsbury in Colonel Job Cushing's 6th Worcester Company Regiment. He lived in Westford but engaged for the town of Shrewsbury. Joseph joined Captain Bullard's Company, of Colonel Alden's Regiment for three years. Joseph Kidder re-enlisted 17 June 1777, in Captain Ballard Company of Colonel Ichabod Alden's Regiment, muster roll dated at Albany, New York. Joseph Kidder was carried as having died, 30 October 1777, while other reports gave 31 October 1777, while in the service, cause of death and circumstances are unknown. During this time period, no battles or actions took place. Between 7-17 October 1777, a major battle took place at Saratoga, New York, but its unknown if Joseph was present. (((There are four possible Joseph Kidder's who may have served this enlistment. Joseph Kidder born in Mansfield, Connecticut 13 October 1720, age 57, no date of death or family, his age makes this questionable. Second, Joseph Kidder born in Billerica, 29 November 1741, age 35, but his date of death was after 1777. Joseph Kidder born Aug. 1763, No date of death or record of any family, a possibility but his young age makes it questionable. The last Joseph Kidder born (1761) he lived in Temple, MA, married 1795.)))((((Checked all family records and census, unable to locate any Joseph Kidder who died on or near that date in history.)))) .... I haven't had time to find out who the Joseph KIDDER was, b1761, who lived in Temple, MA (or a typo and supposed to be Temple, NH). .... I have become very curious whether all the men and teens (soldiers) who died at the Battle of Saratoga .. had their deaths recorded by the State of NY !! Along the same line, going by "death record policies of today," would the deaths of those soldiers have been recorded both in NY and in the state they were a resident of (IF known)? Thank you for your time ! Betty (near Lowell, MA)
