I want to say that they have the most WONDERFUL, helpful, kind and courteous people in the town of Manchester! Charlie Zonneville (Treasurer of the Manchester Cemetery Association), Mickey Record (VP of the Manchester Cemetery Association) and Angie Darduini (Village of Manchester office) all work in what can be known as a pretty "thankless" jobs. These people are priceless! They were a major help to me locating my gggrandfather and other ancestors in a local cemetery! Thank God for these lovely people in these small towns that still care about other people! I have found most of them in upstate New York, but if you need anything in Manchester, these are the people who can help!
Hi Ruth, I don't know if it was mentioned that there is also a Brooklyn list, which is Kings County. It is strictly a no nonsense genealogy list with many knowledgeable and helpful people, willing to share information. Just do the usual....NYBROOKLYN-L-request@rootsweb.com Put the word subscribe in the message body, nothing else. Eileen

On another list there was the question raised as to what are "Bastardly Bonds" and the answer came from another list "An unwed mother had to name the father, or post a bond ensuring that the county would not become liable for the support of the child" & records are supposedly available in county courthouses. The states mentioned were PA & Tenn. Can anyone tell me if NYS had this same practice or does anyone know any more about these "bonds". Thanks. Excuse the typo, the photo was taken in Brooklyn, NY. I apologize for this error.
I am in possession of a photograph that was taken at Metropolitan Photo Studio in Brooklyn, NJ. The name of the individual is Ethel Pallay, and I believe she would have been about 4-6 yrs. old. It's an older photo, being in tan and cream. If anyone is researching this name, please let me know. I found this picture amongst some family photos and I am trying to figure out who this is. Jean

Hi Ya'all; I'm back from my two week vacation in the Glens Falls area. It wasn't enough time to get everything done I wanted but I have to look at the possitive side and that is I got a lot done with great results. I have two questions that I need your input on; First I wasn't able to locate where my Joseph LaVoy was burried on the plane back home (that was delayed six hours at Newwark N.J. Airport UGH!) I thought of this--does WILMARTH & SON undertaker I think in the So. Glens Falls are still exist? with this information mayby I can find out where Joseph Elusive LaVoy id burried for sure. Second I have a photo that I'm trying to date when taken. It's on a thin piece of paper, that looks like someone cut the corners off and pasted on a piece of thick carboard, even this carboard looks old. The photo is in great shape! And scans very well and prints out very well, I can send to anyone who is interested to date it. It's in JPEG formate. it does look like by dress taken in or about 1870-1880? Does anyone know when they started using pictures on paper? Any help in these two questions I will be so happy with. Deanna LaVoy-Lewis Back in hot humid Houston, Texas. My heart still is in Glens Falls, New York

Thank you for the update, but are you not confusing two separate organizations? The NYS Archives has the vital records indexes, but no actual certificates. The NYS Dept of Health has the certificates. They're both located in the same Empire State Plaza complex but in different buildings. I assume you looked up the certificate numbers at the Archives, then walked over to the NYSDOH to order the certs. Hi, I just found in some of my records that Polly DeVoe b 1814 in NY, probably Saratoga Co, NY area, possibly Orange Co, NY, married Martin Peek in 1831 and then she married Somebody BALL, I don't know when, but she died as Polly BALL in 1862. Since I don't know where she was living at the time of her death, I don't know where to write for that information. I don't know if she had any children etc. Please help if you have any information PLEASE write to me privately. Sharon
David SACHS, a twenty three year old clerk, was listed as father of Helen Sachs born 1904 to Bessie Lovelace, seventeen year old housekeeper, in Newark NJ Family hostory says he died in an accident with a carriage or beer wagon - trampled. I have't found him yet so I don't know when or where he died or where he is buried. Bessie is said to have studied opera in NY and as Newark is just across the bridge I was hoping someone might have a lead for him. Family history also said that David was connected to the Sax Fifth Aveue family?? Looking for ANY leads or suggestions Thanks Doris Mayer Reece down in Alabama
Hi You all! Just returned from New York and did reserch at the Albany Archives. Where I spent $11 each for 16 birth and death records. OUCH to my thinning wallet. But the lady I paid was very thank full that I put the index number on the record i requsted. In doing so I'm suppose to get the records in two weeks. She said they are so back logged with request by mail that it can take from two months to two years for a reply. Sorry for the bad news on the two years. But I can under stand the delay, it took me the hole day to go through the birth and death records to find the ones I did get. If I didn't do this myself someone at the Archives would have to do it and that's why it may take up to two years they just don't have enough personal to handle all the letters they are getting.
