    2. To the woman that asked about Watertown newspapers, The newspaper you seek is the Watertown Daily Times. They do have a paper archive. You can also get information from their web page at www.wdt.net The information you seek isn't on the web page, but contact information will be. I don't remember what the fees are for research, copying, and mailing an item from the archives. I believe that last I heard, it was reasonable. Good Luck, Lisa

    1. Re: Watertown
    2. Try calling the Watertown tourist information bureau and ask them for the names and addresses, phone numbers of the newspapers in the town. Once you have the names and numbers of the papers, all you have to do is call, and ask for the department that handles the obits. Once there ask if they have the information you want and how you would go about getting a copy sent to you.

    1. The VINEYARD FARM in Ticonderoga, NY
    2. Jerry Dafoe
    3. Hi, Between 1815 and 1856 somewhere near Ticonderoga there was a Vineyard Farm, 200 acre tract of land in the Vineyard. . The Builder and owner was William and Hannah (Clough) Sweet and later Charles and Aura (Thompson) Flint along with Hannah (Sweet) Thompson. It was the first squared log house in town. When this house was built, the old log barn across the road had already been built for some time, and many think it was one of General Burgoyne's outposts. The old house was occupied by several generations until destroyed by fire in 1927 Can anyone tell me anything about this structure? Pinpoint the location and well anything at all. Thanks, Jerry

    3. Happy Friday! Just a note to thank everyone for their assistance in finding the NY Times obituaries. Turns out my own library in Huntington Beach has the films. Gosh - I didn't know it was going to be so easy! And one more thing to all of you who are afraid of asking dumb questions - here's a classic case of "dumb" and I got an instant solution to my [perceived and potentially expensive] problem. 1. What do you think (Last Message)
    2. Jerry Dafoe
    3. Hi, I know the message "What do you think' has become annoying to some, but I wish to close it out by saying; I am the one who started it all. Since I have read the messages that responded, I have changed my mind. I had grown to mistrust those who said they would exchange and then didn't return any information but some one has to trust if we are to expand on our data otherwise it's a stalemate. So I have decided that I will send my data first, and if I get fooled , well, nothing ventured , nothing gained. I prefer to believe that my trusting will get more positive reactions then negative. Basically aren't most people trustworthily???? If anyone wishes to response to this, you'd better send it to me privately. Jerry PS If anyone is annoyed by this LAST message, I apologize

    1. Birdseye - Stratford CT
    2. two passages on Birdseyes from "In Pursuit of Paradise. History of the Town of Stratford, Connecticut by Lewis G. Knapp, pub 1989 `p 25``In spite of lack of immigrants from overseas, Stratford's population grew. Large families were the rule, and new colonists moved in, both from other Connecticut Collony town for economic gain and from New Haven Colony towns for relief from their oppressive laws (. (In New Haven, even rebellion against one's parents was a capital offense.) There is a story that John Birdseye of Milford, a New Haven Colony town, was caught kissing his wife one Sunday in 1649. On Monday the town officials sentenced him to be lashed. Breaking loose from his captors, Birdseye swam the river to Stratford, then thumbed his nose at his pursuers across the rivr. The Birdseyes stayed in Stratford, where the laws were less restrictive. p 94 The year 1779 was one of gloom for the colonies. Captain William Birdseye was so discouraged that he said across to join the British Army on Long Island. When he returned after the war he found his property confiscated and about to be auctioned. But his friends in town agreed not to bid, so he might recover the property. His neighbor Samuel Ufford, who was not party to the collusion, bid on the land and was nearly mobbed, and Birdseye regained his house and land.```````` Pretty interesting family -- By the way, here they pronounce it Birds-E here in Stratford Dee Watt

    1. Did you know Rita Carney?
    2. David Bartlett
    3. I am looking for ANYONE who knows ANYTHING about Rita Margaret Carney born in 1918. Last known adress was 856 Cauldwell Av., Bronx NY. She came missing in 1941 after a bitter divorce, it seem she just fell off the end of the earth. I have searched SSDI, and posted everywhere, I just really am looking for anyone who might remember the name RITA CARNEY, or maybe RITA WRIGHT, that was her married name. She may have been someone's housekeeper or Nanny, or neighbor or friend. She was a petite woman with brown hair, and possibly an Irish accent, that's not for sure though. Please help me, if you know ANYTHING!!! Thanks, Connie

    2. Dem Bones
    3. I have checked the LDS catalog for Delaware and Cayuga county tax lists. Apparently, they have no tax films for these counties. Are there any tax lists in existence on film for Cayuga and Delaware counties on interlibrary loan? The years I am looking for are Cayuga from 1800-1836, and Delaware from 1790-1810. Cayuga has a voting list from 1799-1817... Has anyone used voting lists and are they beneficial? I suppose there are males who didn't vote and wouldn't be listed on them. Thanks, Selma

    2. Joan and Hal Kaysen
    3. I am up against this right now with one who claims to have searched this surname for 20 years. I am usually not a suspectful person, but some time one gets a sense about some things. For instance, I threw in a comment about two great stories about this family. There seemed to be no interest on the other end about the stories. Also they mentioned a,seemingly, unrelated family of the same surname. I sent as little as I could(about 2 generations) without sources, to see how honest this person was. I can understand how this person may feel, but I won't take too many "stalls" as I have sent some info to her and feel its my turn to receive. If you don't make the attempt to share, you might be taken the wrong way on the other end. This goes both ways. Hope this helps on the subject. Joan
