It was inc. as a town in 1846 initially named Ten Farms. It was renamed for its location west of the village of Westchester. In 1874 it was annexed to NYC. It is now in central Bronx County. Hi listers, Does anyone has any information on AARON, ADOLPHUS or NATHAN CLAPP? I think there is a big possibility they are related to my great great grandmother MARY ANN CLAPP. I have been trying to find information on Mary Ann Clapp and her parents but have been at a brick wall for. Mary Ann Clapp married Lyman Simpson. This couple are shown as living in Sheldon, Genesee (now Wyoming), New York in the 1830 census. My Clapp line has been a total brick wall but I recently found that Aaron, Adolphus and Nathan Clapp were early settlers of Bennington, Genesee (now Wyoming), New York on a microfilmed book called "History of northwestern New York : Erie, Niagara, Wyoming, Genesee and Orleans counties" by John Theodore Horton. This book did not say where the family came from. Aaron and Adolphus were mentioned separately from Nathan so don't know if they even tie together. I wish I could give more information on Mary Ann; but, I don't know where she was born but from the census I figure she was born between 1800 and 1810. I only know she married Lyman Simpson before the 1830 census was taken but don't know the year or place. They o had a child born about 1830 after the census was taken and a second child born in New York abt 1833. By 1836 they had moved on to Illinois where two more children were born. According to family tradition Mary Ann died 10 Feb 1840 Brewster, Stephenson, Illinois four days after her youngest child was born. I have not been able to find any records in Stephenson County on this family and Lyman all his children but the baby are shown on the DuPage County Illinois census for 1840. I have not been able to find any further information on them in Illinois. Lyman and all but the youngest child moved on to Indiana. I have lots more info on Lyman but would like to find something on my Clapp line. Even the smallest bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Marla blarson@ubtanet.com
Would some please tell me where West Farms is ,in New York, would it be in Jefferson County.? Thanks Carole Kelly

I have started putting the Flatbush Death Index on the Bklyn Info Page. http://members.tripod.com/Searchinblind/Bklyn.Info.Page.html It is under FLATBUSH . I am on the 3rd page now and as with the Marriage Index as I am able to do them I will put them up, so u should check back often. PLEASE note : The death Index unlike the Marriage is not alphabetized. It is in numerical order but I have highlighted the surname in red so they r easy to see when scrolling the page.
Hi list, Here is a great site to check out! It is growing by leaps and bounds! http://www.rootsquest.com/amhisnet/ Its the American Local History Network, just click on the State, has many links and info! Good Luck, Terre
GEN-NYS-d@rootsweb.com Here are some of the the specific names that I have found. My 4th great Grandfather, Gillium DAVIS (b. ca 1770s? - d. before 1840?)he may have been a younger brother to Benjamin and Nathaniel DAVIS. His son Joel DAVIS lived in the Warwick area until about 1860, then moved to Chemung Co. He married Mathilda COLE, daughter of Abram, and Mary, please see below. Nathan DAVIS, son of Joel DAVIS and Mathilda COLE married Hattied Mae DRAKE, duaghter of Thomas O. DRAKE and Catherine or Mary POWELL. I see this DRAKE family in the Horseheads area of Chemung Co., in th 1880 census, but Thomas must have died before then. Hattie Mae was supposed to have been born in Gibson (Corning?) Steuben Co. ca, 1858, but I can not find this Thomas DRAKE anywhere, at least haven't yet. Any information on any of these families would be greatly appreciated and I will be happy to share. Read on..... I am looking to find and share information on my COLE McELROY 4th great grandparents, and associated families, POWELL DAVIS and DRAKE Mary McELROY (b. ca. 1788? d. after 1850) married Abraham COLE (b. ca. 1760s? d. before 1850) in The Associated Reformed Church, Newburgh, Dutchess Co. in 1804.I am only guessing at Abram COLEs dates, because I believe he may have served in the Rev. War. I know that they may have lived in the Warwick, or Monroe area of Orange Co., NY. Their daughter Mathilda COLE married Joel DAVIS, son of Gillium DAVIS of Warwick, Orange Co. My question has to do with weather Abram COLE and my COLE family were Dutch/German, or English, given the place of marriage, a reformed church. But then, McELROY certainly sounds of Scottish extraction. I feel that anyone in that area of NY State at theat time, could have been English/Dutch/German or any combination of the three. It doesn't really matter to me, just would give me more ideas on where to look for Abram COLEs parents, and Mary McELROYs parents. I have a strong suspicion that a James McELROY from the Albany area, listed in the 1790 census, could have been her father. Any info would be appreciated. Mike Burnett mwburne@aol.com
Be warned - when I went to the archives a year ago I was told the records were stored in a warehouse and they would have to search for them. Will check the archive site for new information when I can get on it. Maybe things have changed. Marge > Willard was a state hospital in Ovid, NY., and you can find a description of > a collection of patient files at the NYS Archives. The description of the > files is on their web site, but you would have to go to Albany to view them. >
Hi I don't have very much information about this relative but I really have to try and see if anyone can help me. Charles SINGER of Larchmont, New York, was the son of Genevieve ANDREWS and __________ Singer. He appears in the obituary for his grandmother, Ruby Annie (Robinson) Andrews when she died in Meadville, Crawford Co., Pa., in 1901 and again in 1910 in the obituary of his grandfather, Wesely R. Andrews, who died in Washingon, D.C. in 1910. One obituary has Genevieve married to Charles Singer and so this might be her son or husband. Genevieve does not appear in either obituary and so would seem to have predeceased her parents, who were buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, NY. If anyone one thinks that they could help me with this Charles Singer, I really would appreciate hearing from you because I don't know where to go from here. - Ed Edward Coates Sinker Church Lea Bosbury, Herefordshire HR8 1PX UK

David Sachs is listed as father on the birth record of Helen Sachs in 1904 as 23 years old and a clerk. Helen was born in Newark NJ at the home of her grandparents, George and Elizabeth Riker Lovelace. Their daughter Elizabeth or Bessie was 17 at Helen's birth and listed as a house keeper. Bessie had studied opera in NY and according to her daughter was best friends with dancer Gilda McCoy. We don't know if David was from NY or NJ - have not found ANY indication of him except for Helen's birth certificate. Bessie married Arthur Joseph Mitchel in 1907 - what happened to David? Thanks Doris Mayer Reece
John and Sally Loveless are found in Forestburgh, Sullivan County, NY in the 1850 and 1860 census. John and Sally are buried in Westtown Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Their son, George, and his sister Mary are buried in Fairmount Cemetery in Newark NJ. Charles brother married a Lybolt and Emily's sister married a Lybolt. Have not yet found the connection of William W Hartwell to John and Sally Drake Lovelace but he is listed in George's bible with George's siblings.. Hannah Lovelace married William Hull, Rebecca married Ralph Steinard, and Harriett married Harry Barton. I have no spouses for Alfred Burns Lovelace, Henry, Ira, John, Charles or Mary (who's death certificate says she was single) Have found Sarah Drake as daughter of Zephaniah and Rebecca Shons DRake in a couple of books and in Ira Drake's bible.. Anybody see any connections to this family? Would love any suggestions on finding John's parents. Thanks Doris Mayer Reece

I am looking for information about my g-g-g grandfather: PRINGLE, Alexander b abt 1800 in Scotland Came to New York between 1810 and 1818. Sister, also in NYC--PRINGLE, Helen b 1804 in Scotland in NYC in 1818. Married Hannah S. UNKNOWN (my g-g-g grandmother) before 1838--I don't know where they married. Children: Helen Salina b. 1838 and Alexander G. b. 1840, both in NY but I don't know the locality of the births. There is an Alexander PRINGLE that died in New York City, New York Co., on 8 May 1845. I have reason to believe this may be MY ancestor as his widow (Hannah S. PRINGLE) remarried late in 1845 also in NYC. Can anyone tell me how to find the death record for Alexander? I know there must be one somewhere for this info to have shown up on an index but I am not sure who would hold this record from 1845. Thanks, Courtenay Cour10ayMN@aol.com
