    1. problem with welcome messages
    2. Polly Hamilton
    3. hello I hope this goes to the right place. I joined this New York list a few hours ago and got some welcome messages etc but the text of these messages is just strings of question marks, crosses and occasional numerals. Without the readable messages I can't contact the list owner direct. Is the list owner reading this? Can I have the correct messages please? Oh I daresay I'll get the gist of what's going on on the list but I'd like the proper story. I am getting the other messages okay. Polly Hamilton

The handwriting is similar but different. It looks like the official census record at first reading. I've noticed other differences in the recording between my niece's copy and mine. Also on my film, the second ward has been written over and it's almost impossible to read the writing. I'm interested in researching that ward too. There's no explanation forthcoming from local LDS volunteers here. Has anyone had this experience with LDS films? Mary L. Casey in Michigan >> Hi Mary , and the list , I believe you are really looking at a copy of the Copy of The Census ..... Many people do not know there are / was Two Copies of every census made , One was kept by the state and the other was sent to the Census Bureau , These copies were made ( required to be ) by the Asst` Marshal , And I would emagine ' errors ' were made while this copy work was being done ..... It is quite possible that the LDS filmed both copies at different times , And you have a copy of both of them !! , Phil ..... maybe Charles S. on NYC ROOTS -L.. has a different slant on this !! I am sending him a cc of this note ....

    1. 1850 Columbia Cty Census
    2. Hi folks, A few years ago my niece in Las Vegas ordered the 1850 Federal Census for Columbia Cty. NY at her local LDS Library. On it, in the 1st ward of Hudson,NY the name of my ggrandfather, Michael FLYNN, is listed. She made a copy of the page and I have that in my possession. Since then I've learned there were more FLYNN'S living in Hudson at that time. I ordered the 1850 Federal Census for Columbia Cty. from my local LDS Library in Michigan to do more research. I'm reviewing that film now and have found there are some differences from the film she made a copy of. At first it wasn't noticeable but in further examination I've found more discrepancies. In the film I'm reviewing now, my ggrandfather's name is spelled FLINN. It is listed with the same numbers such as "order of visitation" & etc. I believe it is an extraction of the original census but nothing is stated on the film that it is an extraction rather than the original. The handwriting is similar but different. It looks like the official census record at first reading. I've noticed other differences in the recording between my niece's copy and mine. Also on my film, the second ward has been written over and it's almost impossible to read the writing. I'm interested in researching that ward too. 1. NYS Naturalization
    2. Hello Listers All - HELP - I am trying to find my great grandfather's activities in NYS following his migrating from Denmark, around 1966 to USA, NYS, NYC. I have the dates of his marriage and first child in NY but no locations. I'm not looking for someone to do lookups for me, although it would be wonderful, but rather I'm trying to find the procedure that might help me crack the egg. For example, is it possible to do IGI search on the internet ? Is it possible to find marriage location ? Is it possible to find child birth location ? I have all names and dates of events, but I do not have locations, counties, cities, etc. Is there a possible way to find Naturalization records on individual ? I haven't furnished any names or dates at this time for the sake of time. I would be more than happy to furnish same if it would help crack the egg. Thanks to all, Tom Johnson TomJohn01@aol.com

    3. NY City death certificates prior to the early 1880s unfortunately do not list the names of parents. For 1874 they should list the POBs of the individual and parents however. 1. WARNER Genesee County "Overseer of the Poor" WARNER (KMO)
    2. Hello All, I am asking for any help anyone can give me regarding the dead-end I have hit regarding my WARNER roots in Genesee County, Michigan. The family I am seeking is that of WASHINGTON WARNER and his wife Mary (unknown maiden name). In the 1860 census, three of their children are shown: GEORGE (1847), LYDIA 1850) and EMORY BRADFORD WARNER ( my great-grandfather) (1852). All three were born in Flushing Township (Genesee County, MI). By 1880, Emory Warner has married CAROLINE PERKINS, whose family hailed from Jefferson County, New York and settled in Hemlock (Saginaw County), MI. Washington WARNER's occupation is listed as a shoemaker, a trade carried on by his sons. The 1860 census records also show that Washington and Mary were born in New York, but the 1880 census shows them being born in Pennsylvania. A book titled "The History of Genesee County" (MI) written around 1890, shows Washington Warner listed under "Overseers of the Poor 1848. There are Warner references in Eaton and Shiawassee Counties, MI. Family lore from my 95 year old cousin says The Warner family in Pennsylvania might have been from the Philadelphia or Pittsburgh areas, with a reference to "Pennsylvania Dutch," which surprised me because I have been told my Warner's emigrated from either England or Ireland. Yes, I'm confused too! Thank you for taking the time to read all of this. Any information will be 100% more than I have right now. Can I sound any more pitifully desperate? Sincerely, Kevin O'Brien Laguna Hills, California Researching: Dorchester Perkins Shannon Van Schaick Warner Ivall Lowe Gauley
