Does any one know if the list of prisoners taken by the French and Indians at the 1690 raid on Schenectady (Corlard) is available in any book source or from any on-line site? djweber [email protected]
I have been lurking on this list about a month now. I finally saw a message that interested me very much, but unfortunately I deleted it too soon. It concerned researching the Iroquois Indians in the state of N.Y. If the person who sent the original message reads this would you please contact me at the above address. Would like to find Pearl Misner Ulrich of Sullivan Co. & Astoria Long Island NY. 1910 Federal census she appears in the Charles Edward Misner household, looks like she is 11 years old but image is not clear enough to be sure, she is listed as daughter. She is not in the household in 1900 or 1920 but is mentioned in Naomi Misner's will written in 1942 as adopted daughter Pearl Ulrich of Astoria, Long Island. The will mentions that at age 16 Pearl refused to live at home. I'm not sure if Ulrich was her married name or surname before living with Misner's. Was she the child of another Misner family raised by Charles & Naomi Misner? Thank you Laurie

Dear Barnes Family I'm lost. Just returned from a 40 day family search excursion to Vermont and New York. After several County Courthouses, libraries and cemeteries I still have not found the proper trail. Briefly this is what I know: I descend from David A. Barnes (1801) POB,Vermont. POD, Girard, Branch Co. MI in 1869. Wife; Eliza (1804) POB Vermont. POD, same as David in 1861. Children: Franklin L. (1826) POB, NY. Marriett (1827) POB, NY. Samuel D. (1829) POB, NY. James Ransom (1833) POB, Genesee Co. NY. Edward (1835), POB, NY. George (1837) POB, NY. Addison (1841) POB, MI. Helen/Elizabeth? (1843) POB, MI. Parents of David, Unknown. POB in Vermont, Unknown. Eliza's full name and parents; Unknown Marriage of David and Eliza; Unknown I have some census data that may put the family in Tompkins, County or Livingston, County. A news article obit. that states that the fourth child was born in Genesee County in 1833. Does anyone have information on this family. It is my major stumbling block. Thanks for your help. There was an index done on this series of books by AIS. Family History Library has a copy of it. http://www.genservices.com/contact.html They have the index for sale at $300.00 2 volumes - very thick volumes - about 3 inch or so thick. I remembered the index too well. Well done and published in late 1980s. Ronald V. Jackson was the original owner and he sold business to GS before his untimely death in Nov. 1999. He was my former employer for 15 years before I left to start my own business. New additions, please note the change of urls. They're not where they are used to be. The site had been reorganized and divided into 3 divisions: Guardianships, Wills, and Naturalization Records http://www.sampubco.com/ And what's more - the volume lists had been merged into the indexes for quick lookups. And the quick index links are now at state pages you can glance more quickly. For New York Wills http://www.sampubco.com/wills/ny/newyork.htm Greene Co NY Vol F-L (1839-1875) New York Co. Vol 26 (1767-1769 Monroe Co NY Vol 40 and 41 (1882-1888) Madison Co NY Vol J-K (1864-1867) Wayne Co NY Vol M-N-O (1870-1877) Cayuga Co NY - Guardianships http://www.sampubco.com/guard/ny/newyork.htm and in case you want to know about neighboring state, Massachusetts Worcester Co 27 volumes (1857-1895) http://www.sampubco.com/wills/ma/massachusetts.htm US District Court, Boston, MA - Naturalization petitions 38 volumes and still indexing. (Vol 80 and later have NO existing indexes ever done by any agency.) http://www.sampubco.com/nats/ma/massachusetts.htm Please note that US District Courts are listed separate from counties' W. "New York in the Spanish-American War" 1898, part of the report of the Adjutant-General of the State for 1900, was published in 3 volumes, nicely alphabetized by unit, but no overall index for some 2,700 pages. If you know the unit it's easy to find the soldier or sailor, but if you don't know the unit it takes a long time to go through all the units. Does anyone know if a master index has been created for these 3 volumes? If so, where can my genealogical society purchase a copy? Thanks. Marty Irons
Dear List Members: A relative recently found an old family bible related to our Warner clan. Here's some information from inside. We know our Warners were from Michigan and New York, so I'm posting it to every board associated with our Warner research. "A Charity Everts Russell was born to William Russell and Eleanor Dutcher on September 11, 1829. She married L. Edward Warner on August 11, 1854. She died in 1895. One daughter was listed as Anna Stimson married to Dr. Pearce Page." If anyone else's research is coincidental to these names I'd appreciate hearing from you. I'll gladly share whatever I have if it will help you. I've been researching the 1910 and 1920 NY and MA censuses. In the columns under the large heading of Occupation, there are 4 columns. The first says Trade or Profession, and is filled with None, Laborer, Draftsman, etc. The second column asks for type of business, in some cases filled in by a business name (Elec. Mfg. Co., for General Electric). The next column asks Employer, employee, or works on won account. It's that query (or rather the responses that have me puzzled. I've seen some entries "ww" (which probably means works for wages), S (for self?) and W. (??) On another census I saw "Empl," which could mean employer or employee. Did it depend upon the individual census taker?? TIA Jean
