I am seeking the descendents of Harrison Givens, born 8 Mar 1839 on Gee Hill in the town of Virgil, Cortland Co., NY. He was the son of William Givens and Anna Mills. He died on 23 June 1877 in Cortland, NY. He married Mary Jennie Watrous on 17 May 1864. She was born 19 Mar 1839 in Freetown, Cortland Co., NY and died in Cortland, NY 4 Dec 1910. He was a Lieut in the Civil War In 1865, 1866, and 1868, he purchased land in the village of Cortland. The 1865 purchase could have been for a house......but, the other two must have been for a business.........but I have no knowledge what type of business it could have been. In 1860 census for Cortland he was listed as a clerk. They both are buried in Cortland Rural Cemetery. He is a brother of my 2nd great grandfather..........and I have not been able to find any children for them. "Genealogy is the art of irritating the living and confusing the dead!"
I am searching for descendents of Amasa and Anna E Givens..........Amasa was born on Gee Hill in the town of Virgil, Cortland County, New York on 23 April 1835. He was the son of William Givens and Anna Mills. He died in Cortland, Cortland County, New York on 3 Feb 1879. Anna E. was born 17 Jun 1839 and died 17 April 1885 in Cortland, Cortland County, New York. They both are buried in Cortland Rural Cemetery. When Amasa was a young man he came to Cortland, from Virgil, and engaged as a clerk in the mercantile business, which he made his life work. By industry and honesty he steadily advanced until he became senior partner of the firm with which he remained connected as long as his health permitted. He and his wife lived on Tompkins Street, in the City of Cortland. Amasa is the brother to my 2nd great grandfather, George Washington Givens. I have not found and children for Amasa and his wife Anna. "Genealogy is the art of irritating the living and confusing the dead!"

Does anyone have experience with ordering obituaries published in the New York Herald from a James P Maher of Alexandria, VA? I submitted a request for an obituary as listed in one of his books, in March. In April I received some sort of computer print out (not an obituary) with a brief note written on my original letter to him, stating that there were references in the obituary requested to the town in which I knew my family member had lived. Additionally, the note asked for an additional $5 as the price had gone up to $10/obituary. (I had already mailed $5 with the request.) I returned the letter with the computer print out and the additional $5 in early April. On April 20th, I wrote another letter to inquire as to whether the obituary had been sent, noting that both checks had been cashed. I have heard nothing further. I am starting to wonder if this is a "real" business. Is there any other source of obituaries from the New York Herald? The one I seek was published on Feb 1, 1862. Thanks for any advice. Mary
Would someone please give me the address of the Coroner's Office in New York City. Also is there any place I can check for old records of an undertaker by the name of Adair Alread. His place of business was listed as 359 4th Ave. New York. This was in the year of 1880. Any help appreciated. Thank you for your time and courtesy

> The book lists her as Miss Fannie, age 26y, died April 19. > It's in the index to deaths in the Glenville Reformed Church, > however, not Woestina. Ok many thanks Bob, but how do I find this cemetery in the GNIS server? Obviously it's in NY, but I'm assuming it's in Schenectady County? Perhaps it's no longer in use, or called by another name? Best wishes from Tassie Dave Cripps
Would someone plese tell me where I could write for an inquest that was done at the Belleview Hospital in August of 1880. Is there a Coroners office that would have records that date that far back/ Also is there records that would tell where this person was buried after the inquest. Thank you for your time and courtesy
Hi all, Thanks for all of the lookup volunteers for GenLookups.com! I will process them as soon as I get back home. Bill Cribbs GenLookups.com
I would love to find some burials at this cemetery but am not sure if indexes are available or not, but I note the name of the following book below, so I'm hoping SKS out there will doa quick lookup for me please. "Vital Records of Woestina Reformed Church (Rotterdam, N.Y.) And Glenville Reformed Church 1800-1899", by A.C.M. Kelly The name is Fanny Cripps, died 14th Apr 1883, and buried at Woestina Cemetery, and I guess any other Cripps surnames buried around this time. Many thanks From chilly Tasmania Dave Cripps
This notice was in the Plattsburgh paper a few days ago: St. John's Episcopal Church of Essex (NY, Essex County) has produced a CD featuring church records of baptisms, marriages & burials from November 1854 to June 1923. The records are presented in the format of an electronic album & afford the viewer an experience similar to that of viewing the original two bound volumes of records. The CD is available for $20 plus $3 shipping and handling. To purchase call 518-963-7775 or send a check for $23 to St. John's Church, PO Box 262, Essex NY 12936-0262. I DO NOT have any interest in this nor do I know anything more about it so please do not email me any questions in regard to this. I just wanted to let people know these were now available. Thanks & happy ancestor hunting! Kathi Desko
Is there anyone with access to "Dutchess County Newspaper Deaths Index to notices1826-1871," abstracted in The Dutchess, quarterly publication of the Dutchess County Genealogical Society, compiled by Arthur C.M. Kelly? I am looking for possible information for Ann Strober Mitchell, who died sometime between 1846-1850 in Dutchess County, possibly in Amenia or Fishkill. I'd also be interested in knowing if there is a listing for John Mitchell, Mary J Mitchell, Elizabeth, James or William Mitchell in 1850 or later. Thank you. Mary Guler
