    1. HAINES, John A(nthony)
    2. Marty Irons
    3. Hi folks, The 1880 census shows: John A HAINES, age 71, in Westerlo Town, Albany, NY Barbara A, wife, age 29 Frank, son, age 10 Charles, son, age 8 Mary R, dau. age 4 Elisha, son age 2 I believe this may be the family of my grandfather, Irving Salisbury HAINES, born Dec 1880 (so he would not be in the 1880 census). Irving's father may be John Anthony HAINES and his mother may be Barbara Ann SALISBURY, according to my grandmother's notes. She wrote that John A and Barbara were both born in Berne NY. Does anyone recognize this family group? Marty Irons

    1. FULLER: Samuel, Abel, Comfort, George, Jacob, Isaac
    2. How are these Fuller men related/connected to each other: Samuel, Abel, Comfort, Jacob ? They appear on the census in Cobleskill, Schoharie, NY in 1790, 1800 and most seem to have moved together on down to Lycoming County (now Bradford County), PA shortly thereafter. Joining them in PA are Isaac and George Fuller. For about 15 years I have been searching for parents for my Abel Fuller who was supposedly born in MA in 1773 but have never found anything re his birth/parents nor any siblings. Maybe knowing something about his siblings/cousins will lead me to finding parents for Abel. At one time I was told that Abel had a brother Isaac and that they were in the war of 1812 - does anyone know about this? Olive California

    1. John & Esther (Holmes) Moore : Tompkins County
    2. Looking for descendants of John Moore and wife Esther Holmes; they had a son Henry H. who was the couple's 9th child; the oldest child was born 1782; and had a dau. Nancy who married a ----- Wager. There was also Martha who md. Kellog and lived in Newfiled; Esther and others whose names I do not have. I am curious about the ---- Wager to see where/how/if he fits onto my Wager tree. Other queries I have made throughout the years have yielded nothing; hopefully this one will touch base. I do know that John Moore was the son of William Moore and Martha Mack of L'derry, NH - these are my Mack families. Olive California

The 1876 Atlas Map shows Benjamin Parker living on Adams Rd. This road connects Daisy Hollow and Owego Hill roads. Electa died Feb 27, 1875 in Harford, NY. We are unable to find out where she is buried........We have checked the Harford and Harford Mills Cemeteries....also the Virgil Cemeteries.....can anyone help us? We are also trying to find out about Benjamin C Parker. In the 1880 Census for Harford, it looks like maybe he has a new wife, Kate. Have not been able to find where they might be buried either. Benjamin and Electa are my great great grandparents.............can anyone help me?? Patty "Genealogy is the art of irritating the living and confusing the dead!"

    1. JOURNEAY, LAY, BUFFUM in NYC Area c1885-1907
    2. Trying to find m dates and locations for Annie Woodruff LAY, m 1st to Edward JOURNEAY c1885-88 prob. in NYC area, and m 2nd to Dr. Thomas Bellows BUFFUM c 1907 after Edward's death. Edward was b in Staten Island, Thomas in Walpole, NH. Also searching for Edward's d date, prob. bet. 1895 and 1907. NY 1910 Census had Thomas and Annie m for 3 years. Annie was b 17 May 1866 at 18 Greene Ave., Brooklyn. Father was John Calvin Lay b at Leonia, NJ per Annie's birth certificate. Mother was Elizabeth Esther ROOSEVELT, b in NYC. Also need to find sources to confirm John's b and d dates, 29 Mar 1820 and 24 Sep 1902 (both from old family prayer book) and locations of those events. John and Elizabeth were married in Trinity Church Parish, NYC 14 Jun 1855. Her name was listed as Elizabeth E FERRIS, indicating a previous marriage. Theodore Roosevelt Assoc. Journal lists S. J. Ferris as lst spouse of Elizabeth; and the m date as 24 Jan 1848 in NYC. Family prayer book lists the name Roosevelt Ferris w/out dates or identification, leading to the assumption he was Elizabeth's son from that 1st marriage. So far, NY Census, City Directory and Physicians' groups data has not supplied missing data. Any further research suggestions are most welcome. Regards, Tom J in Katy, Texas [email protected]

There is a brand new cem. around Albany but it just opened so there will not be any ancestors buried there. The VA Web Site said this about getting help for finding a grave: Elaine, wishing I had better news for you. **************************************************************************** ********* The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration can provide limited burial location assistance to family members and close friends of decedents thought to be buried in a VA national cemetery. We will research our records to determine if a decedent is buried in one of VA's 120 national cemeteries. We cannot search for large groups on the basis of surname, military unit, war period or place of residence. A request can include up to a maximum of ten specific names. We do not have information on persons buried in cemeteries other than VA's 120 national cemeteries and our records do not contain any personal, military or family information on the decedents. We can only tell you if the individual is buried in a VA national cemetery and where. No form is required to request this information and no fee is charged. When requesting a burial location search, please provide the following information on each individual: Full name, including any alternate spellings Date and place of birth Date and place of death State from which the individual entered active duty Military service branch Most requests take approximately four weeks for a reply. 2. Dear Friends, The New York Genealogical & Biographical Society has now made ProQuest's Historical Newspapers' *every-word-searchable* database of The New York Times, 1851-1997, available to members via remote access on their home computers through the website at www.nygbs.org. There is no extra charge to members for this extraordinary database. The database is also available onsite at the New York Public Library and other major libraries, if you're interested but not a G&B member. Unlike the G&B, NYPL doesn't have the capability of remote access, so it must be used there, not via your computer at home. As I understand, the G&B is the first genealogical society in the country to have the database. I do want to warn you: this database is HIGHLY dangerous as, for many of us, it leads to many late nights of exciting research! You enter a search, then link to and view the articles. The quality of the images is wonderful and the search engine is one of the best I've ever used. 3. BRICK WALL: Have been searching for years for my grandfather's ancestors. He was supposedly born Dec. 14, 1899 as CLARENCE BRUNNER with parents ALBERT/ HELEN FLEMING BRUNNER, but lived most of his life as CLARENCE HUGHTO. Clarence was placed in an orphanage in Ogdensburg, NY (we think) around 1902-03 when he was three, by his parents. Family history states his Mother didn't want him, but father did. Only heresay. He was never adopted. Recently I am told that in Franklin Co., NY in the 1900 census there is an ANDREW HUGHTO 33, and wife, MILIE or NELIE 16 with an infant, 5/12 months, CLARENCE. My grandfather, Clarence listed Buffalo, NY as his birthplace on his marriage record; NYC as birthplace on Army records and SANTA CLARA, NY as birthplace on SS Application. At that point he said his father was ANDREW HUGHTO (Not Albert). Don't know which is correct, but would love to know if anyone can find the Andrew Hughto family from the 1900 census. If Clarence is still with the family in 1905-1910, then this is not my family. Could anyone help. Many, many thanks Sarah

    3. **NEW!** SEARCH ENGINES FOR SHIPS PASSENGER LISTS TO NORTH AMERICA I have begun a new project on Olive Tree Genealogy! Finding ancestors has never been easier! Surnames are at your fingertips with my custom-built Search Engines. These Search Engines will search most FREE Internet pages (including Olive Tree Genealogy) for ships passenger lists to USA & Canada. Search engines have been custom built for the following states: Maryland, Texas, Louisiana, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New England (includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, North & South Carolina, Rhode Island & Vermont) and Texas. The total number of ships to USA you can search from my new search boxes as of today is 4,190. New ships are being added daily so don't despair if you don't find an ancestor the first time. http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/search_ships.shtml Total ships you can search for passenger names to New York is currently 2,630. You can still search manually, ship by ship, by going to http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/tousa_index.shtml One of the little known online databases for USA ships is found at the NAC (National Archives of Canada) for immigration 1925- 1935. Immigration records, including some border crossings are searchable for the ports of Providence, Rhode Island; Boston, Massachusetts; and New York City, New York. The NAC database for these US ports has a total of 6,293 names and you can now search the database from the Olive Tree Genealogy pages! Total names of passengers on NAC databases for New York is currently 5,921. http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/search_ships.shtml As an added benefit, you can also search Rootsweb.com passenger lists - total number of New York records is 6,772. That's a total of over 12,000 names on NAC and Rootsweb searches alone, and doesn't take into account the passengers on 3000 ships searchable from Olive Tree search engines. To search specific ports either list by list or with my new search engines, and to view other databases available for that state, here are the URLs that will take you directly to New York http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/tousa_ny.shtml New York Ships Passenger Lists http://olivetreegenealogy.com/nn/ New York Databases Good luck!
