    2. Richard Hillenbrand
    3. Richard, I can't verify, but am related if you prove the line. John's father was Daniel CHASE s/o Phineas and I descend from another s/o Phineas, Seth CHASE 1722-1810 of Quaker Hill and later of White Creek, Washington co., NY., and died in Peru, Clinton Co., NY. Most of this information is in previously published CHASE genealogies but the ones I have looked at do not bring the children of John down to date. You probably have the 1900 census info on Milton, if not let me know and I can give it to you. There is a very good MOSHER genealogy that would likely help on that part. what other sources have you checked? I have done a lot of primary research on the descendants of Seth CHASE and would be willing to help you with your line any way that I can. My mom was a CHASE. Best regards. 3. Orange County Genealogical Society 1841 Historic Courthouse, 101 Main Street, Goshen, NY Saturday, September 7, 2002, 10:30 A.M. CITY DIRECTORIES: A VALUABLE RESOURCE ADDRESSES to WARD BOUNDARIES By Marilyn Terry City directories can be used for a wide variety of reasons, the most obvious being the residence of your ancestor. Other things you might learn; occupation, name of spouse, neighbors, churches, cemeteries. Let's say you know your ancestor worked as an insurance agent, do you know which insurance company? Did your ancestor own his home, rent, live in an apartment, or was he a boarder? This program will help you to understand the ins and outs of city directories. There may not be a city directory specific to where your ancestor lived, this program will provide you with ideas on where you might look. The use of a city directory around 1930 will save you a great deal of time when you are researching the 1930 Census, which is now available to the public. ABOUT OUR SPEAKER Marilyn Terry is 1st. Vice-President of the Orange County Genealogical Society and Program Chairperson. She has been interested in genealogy for more than 25 years and has done extensive research using local City Directories. THIS PROGRAM IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC As with most programs if you are traveling any distance it is always wise to call and make sure there aren't any changes in the program time or location. Call Marilyn Terry at 845-562-2749 or you may email her at [email protected] Our monthly meeting will be held at 9:00 A.M., which is open to the public. Why not join us for the meeting and stay for the program. Following the program our research room will be open from Noon to 4:00 P. M.

    3. Laurie, This is an abbreviation for Doctor of Osteopathy. D.O.'s are admitted to practive in hospitals, and can have similar specialties as M.D.s; i.e., internist, surgeon, etc. My personal physician is a D.O. Hope this helps. 1. Clarification - Scovilles & Book
    2. Perhaps I should have made myself a little clearer on the line I am doing. I guess I've done it for so long I assume everyone knows what I'm talking about! :~) I am tracing the descendants of the immigrant Arthur Scovel, who came from County Dorset, England about 1660 to America. He first settled in Boston, MA, then removed to Lyme & Middletown, CT. It has been conjectured that John Scovel was his brother as they settled around the same time and many of John's descendants were living in East Haddam, CT along with Arthur's descendants AND Arthur did name a son "John",so it is probable. It is Arthur's great-grandson's that I am researching. Stephen Scoville (Stephen, Arthur) b. in Lyme or E. Haddam, CT 20 August 1706; d. after 13 April 1778; m. Rebecca MILLARD of E. Haddam. Their children: 1. Stephen, b. 19 Sept 1729 (d. 1751 in Cornwall, he intended to settle there) 2. Samuel, b. 29 Sept. 1731; m. Ruth Squires; #2 Mary Rowland [subject of my book] 3.Rebecca, b. 25 November 1733; m. Medad Thornton 4.Sarah, b. 7 March 1763; d. 15 August 1736 5.Timothy, b. 20 September 1737 [my ancestor and subject of book] 6.Henry, b. 16 March 1740; m. Martha Taylor 7.Sarah, b. 15 May 1742; d. 27 August 1749 8. Elizabeth, b. 28 January 1744 9. Hannah, bapt. January 1745-46 at E. Haddam First Church 10. Irene, b. 20 July 1748 11.Stephen, b. 4-15 January 1752; m. his cousin, Mary Scoville[the subject of my book] Certainly, if you are descended from any of the siblings of Timothy, Samuel, Stephen, I would love to hear from you. Also, I do run the Scoville mailing list that encompasses the lines of Arthur and John, if you would like to join us, let me know privately please. I hope this clarifies what I am looking for and want to thank those who have written to me and offering their help. It is appreciated. Janice
