    3. Hello peoples, I have a g-grandfather who was born in Lillesand sometime around 1838. He emigrated to Australia sometime before 1875 (I think 1861). Can someone please tell me what would have been the most likely port he would have sailed from if he was living in Lillesand? Thanks muchly Jenny

If he emigrated, most possibly from Kristiansand, but most possibly he started as a sailorman, and then he most possibly enrolled in Lillesand. Such records are mostly lost and at least are not available on Internet yet. Crew records lists most often became the propriety of the sailship owner, and most often the captain also was the owner at that time. later it could be that a ship owner had several ships, and did not be a captain at all. The records, if kept, most often still is the propriety of the family, but some few has been deliviered to museums, often local ones, but also Norsk Sjøfartsmuseum at Bygdø, Oslo. For ships originating in Kragerø, the ship trade museum at Berg, Kragerø, has lot of informations. Have no idea weather such museums exist for Lillesand, though. Also Aust-Agder museet in Arendal and Aust-Agder arkivet in Arendal may have such records stored.
