They were from the Tjotta area. "Pearl" is really not a Norwegian name. Perhaps her Norwegian name was looking a little strange in America or was difficult to pronounce? I have there searched for a Thøtta emmigrant called Albertina. These sisters would probably have left from Trondheim. In the emigration database for Trondheim I find two girls from Tjøtta leaving 12th July 1905. A little late, but perhaps within some error limit? There names where: * Albertine Josefine Bergitte Anders. (Andersen or Andersdatter). She was recorded as born in 1887. * Nikoline Marie Anders. (Andersen or Andersdatter). She was recorded As born in 1896. These girls are found in the 1900 census living the Oppland farm at Tjøtta. Their parents are found to be: * Mathis Jørgen Pedersen, born 1873 * Emelie Marie Pedersdatter, born 1866 They had several siblings, and all of them are also found in the emigration database. They left Trondheim 26th March 1907 heading for Boston: * Paula Marie, born 1891 * Hans (Petter) Olai, born 1892 * Nilson(!) Bang, born 1894 * Inga Mathilde, born 1898 * Julie Hendriette, born 1899 I don't know what information of yours which tells you that your mother left Norway before 1905. Perhaps your mother may be Paula Marie? I'm just thinking of her first name. I have to add that your mother's surname Peterson obviously is taken from her father Mathis Pedersen. Your auntie used "Anderson" as her surname. This may mean that she was just a half sister. In the 1900 census she is called 'Albertine Josefine Lehartsdatter'. According to Norwegian naming practise at that time her father must have had the quite seldom name 'Lehart'. Albertina may have twisted 'Lehartsdatter' to 'Anderson' or perhaps her father had "Andersen" as surname/patronym. Knut Bryn, Molde

According to the emigration protocols in Trondheim Matilda Georgina left Norway with her mother 18th July 1906. I think you can trust this protocols. Human memory tend to be more unreliable. > ... and according to > what everyone remembers my mom and Albertina and Pearl Marie were the > forst to come over. I think the human memory has changed the story a little. As I wrote in the last message, Albertina was the first to emigrate and she went with Nikoline Marie in 1905. The next group was then your grandmother, "Emeli M.", and her youngest daughter, Matilda Georgina. They left in 1906. The last group was the rest of the children in this family with your mother, Paula Marie, as the "leader", 16 years old! Knut
