Dave, Thanks for the tips. It looks like Finaas is now called Bømlo, the islands west of Fitjar & Stord. I found the farm I was looking for there (Gjøsætre). Still looking for a map that shows old and new parish names if anyone can help. I'm sure that the names changed gradually, over the centuries (unless there was a "great renaming" or something? Haven't heard of it if there was), so there's not really one set of "old", just a collection of snapshots in time. It certainly would be useful to have a listing of parishes which have changed name, and when they change. I don't know if this also involved border changes (I would think it would, or one parish splits into two). It's an interesting question...what you want, is a map that you can dial to a specific date & look at. The information exists, but I don't know if anyone has presented it that way. Kind of like going to mapquest, but where you could also enter a year, not just latitude/longitude. Dave Hinz
