    3. I would like to thank all of you who responded to my recent request for information concerning my maternal grandmother who came over from Norway. I have gone from a "brick wall" to having a whole new series of questions. 1) Margrit gave me information showing sailing information on which i have several questions: a) What doe the two dates signify Contract date, Exp. Date? Is the sailing date given? And which USA port did the ship come to as I can not find the arrival on Ellis Island web site. b) What does ug mean - I think it is under heading of Maritial status c) What does agent mean - I think Lie is given d) What is the ship's name - I think it is Island but I am not sure e) The Purpose of trip shows praesteattest What does that mean? f) The desired occupation show avgift Kr. 0,50 Once again what does that mean 2) Gier gave two census listings , one for 1865 and the second for 1875 which leads to the following questions a) Am I right to assume that Norwegan census are ever ten year on the mid decade ie 1865, 1875, 1885 etc? b) Both census show a son named Oscar whose father's given name was Carl. Is it likely that if Oscar came to the US that he would take the name Carl O. Kokeritz as a patronymic? Once again, THANK YOU VERY MUCH and I hope this email is not to long or burdensome BRUCE HUFFINE STAMFORD, CT USA
