Good day: Still searching for possible Oftedal relatives. The "puzzle" yielded interesting and unexpected results. The initial mentioned by Olav, below is an "A" on the other envelopes. Likely the sender was Astri Oftedal; she was a contemporary of my Mother, Thelma b.1904, I explored the telephone book and found no promising results. My mother visited her cousins in Norway, in the late 1960s or early 1970s. The images are sown in files are located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wajcgs/puzzle/back.jpg and http://www.rootsweb.com/~wajcgs/puzzle/front.jpg Many thanks to Olav and Arne for your efforts! Philip H. Kohl Olaf replied: Not sure how much help but here's a bit on the return address. The avs = avsender = sender. Not sure what that initial is, looks like a u but I doubt it. The surname seems to be Oftedal. The Holb. gt. is likely Holbergsgate (Holberg Street). There are undoubtedly quite a few in Norway and there is one in Sandnes, Aust Agder. As far as finding descendants, you might look for the Oftedal name in the telephone book: http://www.gulesider.no/gsi/whiteSearchFront.do Perhaps limit just to Sandnes. But Norwegians have been just as mobile as elsewhere. Olaf Arne Vasshaus provided more information: According to the census for eligible voters to the norwegian Storting living in Sandnes, Holbergsgate 4A in 1953, we have the folloving persons: Anna Oftedal b.1878, retired. Astri Oftedal b.1906, cleaningpersonell. Ella Oftedal b.1916, housewife. Hanna Oftedal b.1909, housewife. Olav Oftedal b.1910, mechanic. Sigurd Oftedal b.1904, bookkeeper. I hope this will be useful for further studies. Regards Arne
