Thanks. I thought I might possibly be able to check what they had online somehow in order to narrow down our search. > > Gard #84 in Skodje consisted of 9 households in the 1901 census: > > <http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn= > f01529&gardpostnr=350#nedre> > > had the gardnavn of Helland/Hellandshavn/Havnnaes. Yes. Sorry about that. I was just doing some rapid searches without noting down where I had been as such searches usually become definitive at some point. I might be able to reconstruct, but it was a case of finding some Skodje bygdebok and Helland wasn't in it, so I went on to the next item.. > > Could it have possibly been left out? > > Anything is possible. I think that may be the one I found per above. I see what you're saying and that is really going to get confusing since Vatne already has a Helland. Hmmmm, but am I confusing finding Helland in Vatne in 2005 with deciding it was the wrong place in 1901? Just maybe that is the answer. It's been over a month since I was working on this to help someone with Norwegian ancestry from that area, so I'm a bit rusty in terms of immediate recollection, so please bear with me. The problem in finding the right "Helland" was that the name is quite common. During the course of looking for the right family in the right gard, I looked at the Helland in Vestnes, then Haram, then Vatne. None of those were the right one and I finally found the family in the 1901 census in Skodje. That Helland is a different Helland than the one in Vatne, unless I'm very confused - which is always possible. :-) Bob
