Moreover, there is no Vatne herad/kommune in this census. The explanation: In 1858 Skodje sokn and Vatne sokn ('sokn'= subparish) were separated from Borgund prestegjeld ('prestegjeld'=parsih) to form the new Skodje parish. From (about) the same time, this constituted Skodje kommune ('kommune', 'herad'/'herred' = municipality), from which Vatne kommune was separated in 1902. The two sokn/kommune remained one prestegjeld until 1966. In 1964 Vatne kommune merged into Haram kommune, and in 1966 Vatne sokn was transferred from Skodje prestegjeld to Haram prestegjeld. Thus: Your Helland is in Vatne, which in 1900 was in Skodje kommune. The relevant bygdebok is for Vatne.

Yup, that was my conclusion too. And Vatne parish (sokn) was part of Skodje municipality in 1900, but not after 1966, when Vatne parish became part of Haram municipality instead. > During the >> course of that searching, I had located many references to those >> names and one in particular to the H-vinduet factory in Hellandshavn >> in Vatne. I would try to contact the genealogist of the Vestland (West Country) bygdelag (home area association) in America. They have their web page at http://www.fellesraad.com/vestlandslag.htm, They will have their next stevne (meet) at Sioux Falls June 16th-18th 2005. Smile, Stein

Oh oh. I took that to mean that a person was saying: "Jeg har følgende kilde og kan hjelpe . . . ". This is funny. > >> Do you know if I should just leave my name & email address there? > > Not unless you want to disappoint people contacting you in the hope > that you will do lookups for _them_ :-) Too late now<lol> as I already did it a while ago. There is also the Vesterheim that I'd heard about: http://vesterheim.org/index.php and which may have what we're looking for. Thanks again Bob
