Hi ~ Can anyone recommend some good web sites of searchable maps of Norway that include farm names? As an example, the farm I am looking for is in Stor Elvdal in Hedmark fylke, just south of Koppang, known as Vestgard. Thanks, John

Travelgenie (google 'em, I don't know the URL offhand) used to sell the Statens Kartverk 50,000:1 maps. I have several of Hedmark. See which one you need & let me know, and I'll see if it's one that I have. I have mostly Ringsaker and Nes, and maybe one map to the east of those. Dave

Search for Stor Elvdal as a "town" and you'll find it in Hedmark. Ken

As part of that service they have a "find place" service - and that allows you to search by street address in the cities, and by matrikkelnumber in the countryside. Check it out here: http://www.finn.no/kart/ Both searchable and zoomable to the level where you can see individual farms. Above the map there are six boxes. The leftmost three are for finding addresses in cities and towns: Street Street no Postal code The rightmost three can find properies in the countryside: Knr - kommunenummer (municipal code) GNr - Gardsnummer BNr - Bruksnummer Gardsnummer (farm id no) and Bruksnummer (subfarm) you find from bygdebok or census. The kommunenummer you can find from e.g. http://www.ssb.no/kommuner/ or http://www.ssb.no/kommuner/komkat2005fylkevis.html If the search doesn't work, you can still find the rough locality of the municiapality from the ssb.no webpage, and then just zoom in on the finn.no map in that area and search for your farm. I can see quite a few individual farms when I zoom in to the map covering 35000 meters (20 miles) east to west. If you zoom in even further, you'll find Vestgard on the west side of the river, imme- diately south of Koppang Here is a direct link, tinyfied a bit - the string of parameters are 137 characters long :-) http://tinyurl.com/59yze Enjoy! When zoomed enough, you get to the economical maps of 1:5000
