Perhaps you can show me the right way. I'm searching the german barque "Elvira", a merchant ship. Hermann Hinrich Plate emigrated from Hamburg, Germany to Port Phillips Bay, Australia (Victoria) on the "Elmira". Arrival March 10th 1888. So his naturalisation papers tell it. But in Australia the Elmira couldn't be found. But there was a german barque "Elvira". It left Fredrikstad at December 9th 1887 and reached Port Phillips Bay at March 20th 1888. So it was told in a newspaper. Hamburg archives couldn't find the Elvira or Elmira. If it was a german ship, it had another home port. Perhaps Bremerhaven. It seems that Hermann Hinrich Plate took a ship from Hamburg to Fredrikstad, then the "Elvira" from Fredrikstad to Port Phillips Bay. I tried to find something in the internet, but without success, and got a bit lost. Perhaps you can tell me what to do now. Perhaps postal adress or email adress of the right archives.
