    1. Re: how to find ancestor??

    3. Here's another idea. I just returned from the LDS (Mormon) Family History Library in Salt Lake City, and they have the Central Bureau for Statistics lists of emigrants. You can check the LDS catalog (FHLC) for Hallands län and for the year he emigrated. You'll have to read the film parish by parish, but I've looked at Halland county for my ancestor, and it doesn't take very long. Once you find him in these records, it will give you the parish he came from. They list the name of the emigrant and usually the exact birthdate, although sometimes only the year of birth or the age. It will at least give you a parish in Halland in which to start your search without having to write to Sweden. It takes anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks to get a roll of microfilm from Salt Lake (at your nearest local LDS Family History Center) for a nominal fee (our center in Sacramento charges $4.00 per roll).
