Yes, those are two different kinds of changes, a translation and one that just fits American orthography better. Quite often as with Økland there was a kind of phonetic translation that is not a literal translation. An example is my relatives who used Oversea in America, though the Øversjøen farm from which they came gets its name from the lake near which it was located, literally "Upper Lake."
