I wouldn't put TOO much importance on the button on the scanner. Mine has a button and I never use it. I have a shortcut on my desktop to my scanner, so I double-click the icon, which is the same as pushing the button. I have to use the mouse then anyway, so why do I need the button. The rest of the advice is excellent. Personally I like Hewlett Packard and I'm certain you can find one in your budget.
