Hello-- I'm trying to locate the birth record of my maternal grandmother, Ella Straith, born 8 June 1888. Her family was living (probably) in Oslo at the time. I'm getting help from someone in Oslo in trying to locate her birth record, but the search is not going as smoothly as I had hoped. The researcher has looked in a number of parish records in Oslo close by their "last known address" in 1888--and has come up with nothing so far. There's a possibility that my grandmother was born while the family was vacationing at their seaside cottage--but I'm unsure where that would be--was there a particular location close by Oslo where people had their cottages? Unfortunately, there is no one to ask--my mother's been dead for 15 years, and my grandmother's surviving son is senile in Phoenix, AZ. I'm the only one of the "grandchildren" who is interested enough in genealogy to do the research (and, when necessary, pay for help to do it!). My grandmother's SSN application says she was born in Oslo--but I *don't* have her naturalization documents either--which I would take as a better source than the SSN application! On a good note, I've found out quite a bit about my grandmother's life in Norway I didn't know before, and also more of her mother's heritage than I knew before; however, I'd really like to get that *little piece of paper*, and so far, it's eluding me! Thanks-- Jean Barto Newport News, VA
Just wanted to add that my grandmother's parents were Josefine Koch (Kock), born Apr 1862 in Oslo, and Reinholdt Straith, born 1851 in Drammen. They were married, most likely, in Oct 1883, also probably in Oslo. Jean "Jean S.
