In "Norwegian" (i.e. Danish) of 1884/1893, "Begravelse" = burial (place the deceased in the grave and cover with earth) this was done by the family and neighbours, under an informal ceremony. "Jordfæstelse" = graveside ceremony (by the clergy) Usually the deceased was buried within 3-5 days, in some cases up to 7-8 days. The 8 days in your case (June 1 to 9), is at the limit, particularly in the summer. Ivar S. Ertesvåg
