    1. Searching for Tolken99 4.2 language translation software
    2. pgreenland
    3. Hello, Does anyone know where I can buy a copy of the word processor/language translator called TOLKEN99? Tolken99 4.2 used to be available as a shareware program for $30, but I cannot seem to find a download source for it anymore. Here is a brief description: TOLKEN99 - Ziff-Davis 5-Star award winning language translation software. It translates documents, e-mail and web-pages to and from both English and Swedish and the following languages: German, French, Spanish, Danish, and Norwegian. Tolken also includes a word processor, dictionary and a vocabulary tester. Easy to install or uninstall with WISE-installation. For Windows 3.1, 95/98 or later versions. Thanks, Paul Greenland

    1. Parish of Alfshg (searching for historical / land information)
    2. pgreenland
    3. I am searching for general historical information about the parish of Alfshög, which is near the cities of Varberg and Falkenberg in southwestern Sweden (Halland province). My ancestors lived in this parish for a very long time, and I am trying to find out what it may have been like for them to live there. I am writing a historical account of my family, and this information would be very helpful to me. If you have any details about the history of Alfshög and the surrounding area, I would be most grateful. I live in the United States, and this information seems impossible to find. A man named Sven Larsson wrote a book called "Vessige och Alfshög - Tvåsocknar i Ätrans dalgång" in 1996. I have been able to obtain a few translated pages from this book and learn some of the parish's history. However, I would like to attempt to reach this man directly, as he may be a good resource for me. Does anyone know how I might find his address? Secondly, I am trying to locate the land owner of a particular estate in Alfshög parish. My great-great-great-great-grandfather, Bengt Alfsson, who was born in 1707, was listed as the owner of the estate Kjerreberg 30 in Alfshög. I wonder where this residence (possibly a farm) is, and if it still exists. I would like to visit this site someday. Subsequent generations of my family also are listed as owning the estate Kjerreberg 30 in Alfshög. I have corresponded with a pastor in Alfshög, but he seemed reluctant to give me very specific information. He first said: "there is an estate in the parish of Alfshög namned Kärreberg, and it is situated in a rural area," but later said "I canŽt give you one name, as Kärreberg is the name of an area, not a single estate." I seem to think the number 30 may be an actual address or tract of land, but I do not know how to trace this without help from someone in the area. On a related note, my great-great-grandfather, Carl Petter Andersson, moved from Alfshög to the nearby parish of Ljungby and owned the estate Björnãs 2. I also would like to find general historical info. about Ljungby, as well as specific info. about the property where he once lived. I appreciate any thoughts/advice anyone has on these matters. Thank you, Paul Greenland

    3. We are trying to find living descendants of Oline, a woman who emigrated from Sel in Gudbrandsdalen, to USA in 1898. Our local church record tells that she was born 21st November 1872. But we have a picture from Oline's 81th birthday in 1955, (then she should be born 1874) so we are not sure she was listed with her right birth year in USA. The picture shows Oline with her daughter in law, Betty, and a grandchild called Cathy. Another picture shows Oline with her two daughters Ellen and Ester. We don't know for sure, but if we remember right, Oline had five children. One of them was a son called Oscar, maybe! We don't know her husband's first name. The family name was Johansen. This is Oline living at Ingeborgøien in 1875: Lenke And we think this is Oline emigrating from Kristiania/Oslo: Lenke Our latest address from 1955 on Oline was: Oline Johansen, Granite Falls, P.O. Yellow Medicine Co., Minnesota. Unfortunately, we think that she moved to Wisconsin after the contact with Oline and her family stopped. Our hope is that a national register, or something like that, in Yellow Medicine Co. maybe could have informations about Oline Johansen and her family, and if and where they mooved after 1955. We appreciate any help that can lead us to living decendants of Oline. They will be very wellcome to a family gathering in Sel this summer, where descendants of Oline's parents here in Norway, over 100 persons, will meet. We are very sorry that we don't have more informations about Oline's decendants. Regards, Aud Sandbu

    3. Is there an online telephone directory for Neder Luleå, Sweden? I am looking for possible relatives in Neder Luleå. My great grandfather left Sweden in June 1882. I have been researching him for several years so have several records for him and I am aware of the name changes so I don't know if I will have any luck. The emigration record from Neder Luleå lists him as "Hans Peter Wallstrom" laborer. Birth year as 1859. The emigration record from Göteborg listed him as Hans P. Wahlstrom. I have found his possible birth record. His date of birth was December 14, 1859. It was very hard to read. It listed him as illegitimate. Mother listed as Kaisa Johanna Carlsdatter. Godparents listed Petter Br...berg (can't read); Maja Caisa Nilsdatter, Brita Sophia Nilsdatter, J. P. Bronnholm?. I have researched the censuses around this time and have been unable to find any of these people for sure. Nothing on his mother. On his marriage license in Nebraska, USA. His mother name was covered but it appears to be Johanna Noll. The rest is covered. Father is listed as Skon Wallstrom - so I assume his father was unknown to him. Thanks for any help. 3. Hi Gordon ~ The Norwegian naming system in the 1700's usually consisted of three names: 1. The first name 2. The patronymic name (such as Pedersen or Nilsdatter) 3. The name of the farm on which the person now lives The first two names don't change during a person's life, but the farm name can change every time the person moves to a different farm, although I sometimes see people refer to a person by the name of the farm at which they were born. The farm names cause a bit of quandary for genealogists, and this and other email lists have had discussions of which farm name to use when doing a family tree or database. Hope that this helps, John Reindl, Genealogist Nord Hedmark og Hedemarken Lag Gordon Anderson wrote: > In the records of Hvaler, Østfold, Norway (1700's) I see many farm names > such as Seylöe, Sannöe, Spier, Haugge, Ørdal, etc. etc. But I see no farm > names reflecting the names of people who lived there.
