Do you have any farm names? The patronyms don't narrow things down very far. Dave Hinz
Hello, Does anyone know which bygdebook I should look at to incorporat the 1840's to 1870's in the Loten, Hedmark, Norway area? I am looking for families of Christian ANDERSEN and Ingeborg OLSEN. (Parents names HOFF, ANDERSDATTER, IVERSEN, and OLSDATTER). Any help is appreciated. Regards, Nancy A. Daniels Cape Cod, MA, USA

In Hvaler, Østfold, Norway-1753 marriage records; 1. At the top of each entry there is a date which in each case precedes the names etc. followed by the marriage date. All dates on page are ecclesiastical dates and all are Sundays (Dom.) except for Jonas Christophersen. The date at the top of his entry is 15 August (Wednesday in 1753) preceded by a 5 letter word that begins with the letter D and then perhaps an r. The last letter looks like d preceded by an i. I have tried many possible combinations using a Norwegian-English dictionary. Does any one have any suggestions as to the word and translation and what this date represents (banns, proclamation, engagement etc.)? 2. Preceding the name of each bridegroom on the page is a word that begins with what I believe is an E. These E's are different than any other capital E's on the page. This E has a loop which extends from the middle of the E up past the upper right corner of the E and back. Other capital E's on the page are conventional as in Eli and Elen.If this is an E why is it different? The next letter might be v followed by onlovich. I am guessing on this! I have tried many possible combinations but nothing fits. Any help also on this word will be appreciated.
Thanks for your responses--this is the best newsgroup! I saved both sites to "My Favorites", for future reference when entering my family dates into the database. Thanks again! Best regards, Sonia Gregerson Meyer

Thank you so much for the very useful information. I printed the page and now only need to have it translated into English and then correlate the church holidays/events with their calendar months. Gratefully, Sonia Gregerson Meyer
I have a copy of "Hitterdals Boken" but am having difficulty understanding references in some of the dates. For example: 1. Anne, dopt 1. S. e. Paaske 1725 Does this mean that Anne was baptized on the First Sunday after Passover, 1725? 2. Ole, dopt S. Sept. 1725 Does this mean Ole was baptised on Sunday 1725? 3. Simon, dopt 3. S. i Faste 1729 Simon baptised on the Third Sunday ? Fast? 1729. 4. Johannes, dopt 22. S. e. Trf. 1731 What is the 22 S. e. Trf 1731? Perhaps there a Church Calendar for these dates available online? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sonia Meyer Hacienda Heights, CA

Bonjour, Sur l'adresse : http://medailles-decorations.org vous pouvez découvrir l'Ordre National du Mérite. Bonne lecture.
Can someone tell me if Jakob Øysteinsen from Suldal parish, who married Siri Johannesdtr. and had sons, Øystein (1700), Johannes (1703) and Ole (1708), is listed in the Personregister to Gamle Suldal Gards- og ættesoge? I do not know the farm in Suldal that they lived on. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -- Michael VanBaaren Sacramento, California, USA E-mail: van_baaren (at) hotmail (dot) com
I did a search for "Alfshög" at http://www.alltheweb.com and got a lot (258) of results. Does anyone know how I might find his address? Go to http://www.gis.lst.se/lanskartor/ and choose Halland and Falkenberg. The you can search for the coordinates "Sökning via koordinater" and enter X=6322016 Y= 1307040 A least you can see where it is. Today it is an area with several houses (and farms). You can zoom in on the map. > Secondly, I am trying to locate the land owner of a particular estate in > Alfshög parish.
