As part of that service they have a "find place" service - and that allows you to search by street address in the cities, and by matrikkelnumber in the countryside. Check it out here: http://www.finn.no/kart/ Both searchable and zoomable to the level where you can see individual farms. Above the map there are six boxes. The leftmost three are for finding addresses in cities and towns: Street Street no Postal code The rightmost three can find properies in the countryside: Knr - kommunenummer (municipal code) GNr - Gardsnummer BNr - Bruksnummer Gardsnummer (farm id no) and Bruksnummer (subfarm) you find from bygdebok or census. The kommunenummer you can find from e.g. http://www.ssb.no/kommuner/ or http://www.ssb.no/kommuner/komkat2005fylkevis.html If the search doesn't work, you can still find the rough locality of the municiapality from the ssb.no webpage, and then just zoom in on the finn.no map in that area and search for your farm. I can see quite a few individual farms when I zoom in to the map covering 35000 meters (20 miles) east to west. If you zoom in even further, you'll find Vestgard on the west side of the river, imme- diately south of Koppang Here is a direct link, tinyfied a bit - the string of parameters are 137 characters long :-) http://tinyurl.com/59yze Enjoy! Travelgenie (google 'em, I don't know the URL offhand) used to sell the Statens Kartverk 50,000:1 maps. I have several of Hedmark. See which one you need & let me know, and I'll see if it's one that I have. I have mostly Ringsaker and Nes, and maybe one map to the east of those. Dave

There were 17 other persons who travelled from Göteborg to various other places in the US. No-one to Chicago. Do you know her age? I assume she wasnŽt born 1913... My great grandmother Signe Helfrida Andersdotter (Anderson) departed Sweden for the USA in March of 1913 onboard the "Olympia". I have a photo of her with 6 other people onboard this ship and I'm wondering if someone could tell me who the other passengers were onboard the ship at the same time as her? Also where the ship departed Sweden and where it was going in the USA? Thank you in advance for your assistance. Brenda Hammond

    3. Hello, I'm looking for any information on ancestors and/or descendants of Wilhelm Laybourn (1842-1913). According to the IGI, Wilhelm was christened on 22 Oct 1852 in Rodovre, Kobenhavn. I am especially interested in his son, Robert Laybourn, who wrote the book 'The House of Laybourn from 1025 to 1938.' Robert Laybourn had three sons: Svend Robert, Georges Robert (who d. in 1937) and Norman Louis. I would very much like to contact Svend Robert and/or Norman Louis, if they are still alive, or any of their descendants. Thanks for any help. Bob Lightburn Point Pleasant Beach, NJ

    3. Hej Hasse! Tack för snabbt svar. Min morfar Emil Wickman föddes 28 jan 1870 antagligen i Österbotten i Finland. 1. Oftedal
    2. Phil Kohl
    3. Good day: Still searching for possible Oftedal relatives. The "puzzle" yielded interesting and unexpected results. The initial mentioned by Olav, below is an "A" on the other envelopes. Likely the sender was Astri Oftedal; she was a contemporary of my Mother, Thelma b.1904, I explored the telephone book and found no promising results. My mother visited her cousins in Norway, in the late 1960s or early 1970s. The images are sown in files are located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wajcgs/puzzle/back.jpg and http://www.rootsweb.com/~wajcgs/puzzle/front.jpg Many thanks to Olav and Arne for your efforts! Philip H. Kohl Olaf replied: Not sure how much help but here's a bit on the return address. The avs = avsender = sender. Not sure what that initial is, looks like a u but I doubt it. The surname seems to be Oftedal. The Holb. gt. is likely Holbergsgate (Holberg Street). There are undoubtedly quite a few in Norway and there is one in Sandnes, Aust Agder. As far as finding descendants, you might look for the Oftedal name in the telephone book: http://www.gulesider.no/gsi/whiteSearchFront.do Perhaps limit just to Sandnes. But Norwegians have been just as mobile as elsewhere. Olaf Arne Vasshaus provided more information: According to the census for eligible voters to the norwegian Storting living in Sandnes, Holbergsgate 4A in 1953, we have the folloving persons: Anna Oftedal b.1878, retired. Astri Oftedal b.1906, cleaningpersonell. Ella Oftedal b.1916, housewife. Hanna Oftedal b.1909, housewife. Olav Oftedal b.1910, mechanic. Sigurd Oftedal b.1904, bookkeeper. I hope this will be useful for further studies. Regards Arne
