Hi to all, My mother and I recently visited the family history centre in Montreal to photocopy old church records. We could make out the date and the name, but we could barely read the rest, but without understanding what we were reading. I have scanned 7 church records. My scanner program would not allow me (go figure why) to save those documents in a .jpg format, but only in .psd from Adobe Photoshop. Is anyone interested in transcribing and translating those documents? I suppose they all more or less say the same thing. We're interested in having more information about the godparents, siblings, etc. Anyone interested can write to me at my personnal e-mail address : nina_k73@hotmail.com Thanks in advance, Nina _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Sønsteby or Sønstebye is such a common farm name, that it will give you problems finding the right one. These farms are all over the country. You say this lady was born in Drammen. Try looking for farms in circles starting from there. Have a nice day. Ooohh - I hate to do this to you - but the closest thing I can find in Norwegian farm names in the 1865 census is Sønsteby and Sønstebye (I've often seen oe used as a substitution for the ø...) There seem to be 30 something farms using those names in various fylker of Norway. Two in Buskerud - the closest one to Drammen would probably be in Modum. http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/index-eng.htm PR Todd Ronning wrote: > Greetings, > > I am just beginning researching my wifes ancestry, which is puzzling. Greetings, I am just beginning researching my wifes ancestry, which is puzzling. I have found 4 different surname spellings for her great grandma, who emigrated from Norway in the late 1800's. Jenny Senstebe was born 27 June, 1874 in Drammen, Norway. The following records came from Taylor Co., Wisconsin. Marriage record spells her surname Sensiby. Her sons birth record lists the mothers maiden as Suntiby. Her sisters, childs birth record lists the mother's maiden name as Soensteby. My wifes grandmother (age 89) thought the spelling was Senstebe. Wow....how can I sort this out. Are any of these names common in Norway? Any body have any ideas? Thank you in advance. There are a lot of people from Hallingdal area in the book. If anyone one want's a copy, send to me offlist. If you find family in the index or have a question, write me back offlist. Margit

Have a good trip Hilsen Svein "John Reindl" <reindl@chorus.net> wrote in message news:39B182D5.9ED7E829@chorus.net... Hei ~ I apologize for this short notice message. An acquitance is looking for the phone number and names of the people living at the Nyfløt farm in the Ringebu kommune. In an early edition of Norske Gardsbruk, the owners are listed as Martinus and Randi Nyfløt. Martinus was the brother of my friend's grandmother. He is leaving for Norway on Monday and would like to contact the current residents of the farm, as they may be relatives. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Med beste hilsen, John Reindl Madison, WI PS ~ De kan skrive paa norsk. Mange tusen takk
My thanks to all who helped on my request for a phone number for the Nyfløt farm near Ringebu in Gudsbrandsdalen. Correction, Christensa would be my G-G-Grandmother.
Hello Liv Fiveland, It appears that we are cousins! Unfortuneately, I am not able to read any Norwegian and was unable to go through the information on your web site. My mother is still able to speak it though and I will have to check with her if she can still read Norwegian. Would you be able to provide any information on Christensa (my G-Grandmother) concerning her parents, grand-parents, etc.? My wife and I would love to make a trip to Norway sometime in the next few years. I would love to meet any relatives that I may have over there. Thank you for your help! This is great! Between yourself and Dag Hoelseth, you have just given me the information I was looking for! I am amazed as to the details that you have been able to provide. I had all of Lars children and have been to the cemetary in Rush Creek where a number of my Great-Uncles & Great-Grandfather are buried. I am curious, how were you able to provide this information as I assume that you are in Norway? Once I have more time, I am interested in researching the grandmother on my fathers side, and the grandfather/grandmother on my mothers side as they also came from Norway. I don't know what a "bygdebook" is, but I assume that may be a birth record of some sort? With the information that you have provided on Lars and his father, along with Christenca, how far back would I be able to go in the family line? I am interested in going back as far as I am able on the "Pederson" side for right now, but of course would welcome any other family information. I am interested in going to Norway and would like to do so in a few years. With the information that I can obtain, I would love to meet any relatives that I may have in Norway and possibly the home(s) that they lived. What is a parish or sub-parish in Norway? Also, when one talks of a farm name, what is that referring to? As my wife and I just had a baby boy, Garrett, I am interested in our family heritage. Thank you for the help that you have provided on my family and I hope that I am not asking too much from you! Hello! I am afraid that I joined this -L as a resource for genealogical information regarding my Swedish ancestory but now find that, although it is a very interesting -L, it is better suited for others who need or want additional information. I have searched my own archives of bookmarks and cannot seem to find the site that originally brought me to GEN-NORDIC-L so that I can unsubscribe. Is there a kind soul out there that knows how to unsubscribe and is willing to share with me? Thank You! Cathie
