Hi! You haven't more informations? The name Mattson (eg. Matsson), Andersson, Bergström and Engberg is very common name in Sweden. Spec. Matsson and Andersson (= son of Mats and son of Anders). As requested: Lagerström, Magnus, Director. Born Stettin 16 Dec. 1691. Parents: Government minister Magnus Laurin, ennobled as Lagerström, and Helena Engelcrona. - Following a conscientious upbringing, L. was appointed general government secretary in his native town of Stettin but at the transfer of the town in 1713, he moved with the government to Stralsund. When even this town capitulated, he stayed until 1721, then went to Stockholm, where as a reward for his services received the title of justice of the court of appeal and a salary, which however was so meagre that he had to work as a student teacher in the Board of Commerce and assist the president as his personal secretary. He also undertook, as a way of augmenting his income, to write and translate works and collect books and statutes, thus substantially improving his lot, and even more usefully, he was appointed on account of his language skills as secretary of the East India Company which was established in 1731. He successively bought several properties, which he improved and beautified with new crops and plantings and in 1746 he intended to settle in the countryside, but was promoted to Director of the Company. The following year he received the title of Head of Division. - Died childless in Gothenburg 5 July 1759. - As he himself was educated in the sciences, L saw to it that, as much as possible, knowledgeable and scientifically learned men were employed as captains and officials on the East India Company ships. These voyagers were ordered to write logbooks and notes, make observations on scientific topics, detail faraway people's customs, draw maps and bring home natural curiosities. These curiosities, finds, tools, books etc, were transferred to public collections, the royal household and Linné, who in appreciation called a plant Laqerstroemia as an honour to his scientifically-minded friend. Greetings listers. I have finally settled in to my new house. The move to Ohio went well. I changed my email address - it use to be (crash7200@aol.com). During my move I received by gggrandfather's old sea chest. On it is painted Petter O. Frydenberg. We previously thought his name was Peter Olsen Friedenburg. We know that he came from the Frederikstad area. If anyone has information on Frydenberg in the Glemmen area it would be most appreciated. Petter O. Frydenberg (Peter Olaf Olsen Hauge) was born in 1847 time frame. Married in 1870 Katherine Mathiasdtr Faller she was born ca 1846 daughter Anne Olivia Pedersdtr Hauge b.1870 in Onso, Norway - according to church records. Other Children - Martin Gunerius, Karl Olaf, Frederick, Hanna, Gustave, & Petter. I have emigration records of this family leaving Frederikstad on April 14th 1888 on the Kristiania bound for Amsterdam. I can't find them entering the US. Any help would be appreciated. Her father is either John Sandberg or John Stenberg, her mother is Gustava Mongas, Gustva Mauerson or Gustava Mauerson, b. 1834, d. 12 Dec. 1924 in Council Bluffs. Jeanne in Maine...How great of you! I'm looking for my mom's father who abandoned the family around 1916. His name was Ludwig Johnson...it's possible Ludwig is a middle name, his first name might have been Herman, Elmer or Arthur. They lived in Veblin which I think is in Pierce Co. Their youngest was born there... his name was Arthur. Ludwig left Veblin with a preacher , his wife (my grandmother Agda) divorced him and he died shortly thereafter perhaps in 1917 or 1918. I've entered into Microsoft Word, two sections from a family history (Slægten Hjorth) written in danish and compiled around 1918. I don't speak/read danish (though I heard it a lot in my childhood). I've done what translating I can with my danish-english dictionary (pretty literal so far) and was hoping someone might volunteer to review what I've got, fill in unknown words, and correct words and meaning from how I've translated them.
