She has a daughter Olave Olsdatter, who is 14 years old. This is the only Olave O. who is about 15 years old in the 1865 census for Østre Toten, so the odds are pretty high that it is the same person you are looking for. -- Vennlig hilsen Frank H. Hello Pat - There was a small article in Opland Arbeiderblad (a local newspaper) on October 16th 1948 on the occasion of the birthday (60 years) on Adolf Wiik on the day before (October 15th). His address was Bøverbru. In his youth he had worked as a lumberman and later he worked for a number of years as a bricklayer. In 1932 he started to work at Sandbakkens Kalkverker where he was still working in 1948 when this article was written. He also was working his farm Engelstad in V. Toten. He was very much respected by his colleagues at work. (The article does not say if he had a wife and children). - Tove Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Hello all -- I'm researching my g-grandfather AUGUST CHRISTIANSEN, originally of Norway. He was the 2nd husband of my grandmother (Bertha HANSEN b. 1854 Denmark), presumably marrying in Philadelphia where she had already lived and been widowed (by ? LUNDEGAARD of Denmark) with 3 kids. They married in the mid-1880's and had 3 more children. He died in the 1890's; family recall him as a red-haired tugboat captain. I've found an AUGUST CHRISTIANSEN who emigrated alone from Stange, Norway to New York in 1873 at age 19. He was aboard the Kong Sverre S/S from Oslo. Also found his family in the 1865 census -- he was the 3rd of 5 sons to Christian HANSSEN (b. 1824 Stange) and Beata MIKKELSDATTER (b. 1825 Ringsager). They lived at Tomte Nedre in the Ottestad parish. Questions: 1) All signs of the family in Stange disappear after the 1865 census -- no records of emigration, or Norway residence in future censuses. Was there a calamity in the area between 1865-1873 that might have made them disappear? Anyone have a bygdebok for the area? 2) August's father was reportedly operated a whaling boat. Is this consistent with living in Stange? 3) How can I link (or rule out) this person as my g-grandfather? Any clues for finding out what emigrants did after landing in NY? How/why would he get to Philadelphia? 4) I noticed in the Norwegian farms directory that there happens to be a farm very close to Christiansen's Tomte Nedre called "Lundegaard lille & store". Could this be a total coincidence or is it possible/likely that my grandmother's two husbands knew each other somehow in Norway? Thank you in advance for putting on your thinking caps on my behalf. I'm stumped! Lisa Traylor Aliso Viejo, CA ltraylor@home.com

Could anyone help me with conflicting information. I was told that Helmi Ruusuluota was born May 30 1905 in Ruosniemi and that her father Vihtori Ruusuluota was also born in that town. Helmi was married to Kaarlo Peltoniemi and in 1924 had a daughter named Jenni Peltoniemi. I have their immigration records to Canada and it states both Helmi and her father Vihtori as Norwegian. Does anyone have access to this parishes records?
Olaus Ness would be too common a combination for me to venture a guess. But Aremark is in Østfold region of Norway. The 1865 census shows two farms named 'Strøm' there. Lena might be listed under the second one as 'Lina'... http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/wc/webcens.exe?slag=e&filename=arkivverket/ft1865/f60118&variabel=7&postnr=1133&fulle=true&spraak=e It would be nice of Olaus if they'd come from the same area... probably too much to hope for, but there are a number of farms with names that start like 'Næs' in Aremark. Norwegian? Then it probably is. (Interesting farm name... I'd watch for the Scots in it's history... possible....) Go to one of the censuses online - http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/index-eng.htm Click on one like the 1865 - then in the entry blank for 'Name of farm' enter the first three or four letters of the farm... be prepared for spelling variations. But you'll get an idea of where such might have been located. Try the other censuses too - you might find more possibles.
