    3. I am trying to find my relatives in Norway. Please help me. my grandmother; Hilda Elizabeth Schutte, was born in 1875 in Norway. Her ancestor; a Schutte, brought Lutheranism to Norway and when he died they buried him in the church. When my grandmother was a little girl, her family was asked to come to the church and watch the church members remove her ancestor from his grave and then bury him outside. The church members could then tear down the church in Trondheim and build a Cathedral. My aunt; born in 1907, has visited the Cathedral and our relatives in the 1950's, but i don't know where her personal things are to find the our relatives addresses. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knows a Schutte in Norway because he or she is a relative of mine. Thank you Jean Benson ( jbenson578@cybertrails.com )

I agree, the name Schutte sounds dutch. I have never met this name in Norway. The telephone directory for 2000 for Oslo does f. e. not show any person by this name. To state that a single person brought Lutheranism to Norway hears strange. All knows that Norway developed a lutherian state religion by political progress. Danish Kings were highly active. Religious lutherian influence came from Germany and was politically settled in Scandinavia. The Low Countries however became Calvinistic (after Jean Calvin) and I doubt therefore that a dutch citizen could have exported Lutheranism to the whole of Scandinavia. Something in this story may be right, something wrong, but if your ancestor was buried in a church in Trondheim, my guess is that this must have been Bakke church. This church is built of timber and was erected in the beginning of the 1700s a mile East of Trondheim (Strinda parish). Abt. 1900 (I think it was the 1890s) this church was moved 5 - 10 meters due to a change in the road system(!). It seems reasonable that if there were any graves inside the church, they had to be displaced at first. Knut Bryn, Molde

    3. Interesting indeed Joan: my ancestors Jan Schutte and Catrina Leocardia Weevers married in the Roman Catholic church 6th of September 1762 at Wehl, Voorstonden in Gelderland. Interestingly they went in "ondertrouw" on the 5th of April 1764 (yes 19 months later) in Voorst. They had converted to the Catholic church, both of them. One of the children from this couple was an Elisabeth Schutte who was baptised 21 October 1776 in Eerbeek, Roman Catholic. So Jean, your entry is of great interest to me. I will be on hoiliday in the states (Utah and Virgina) the next three weeks, but will look forward to future communications on your Johan Kamperman heeft geschreven in bericht >"Schutte" is a typical Dutch last name. 1. Method to trace Scandinavian emigrants
    2. Mikael Larsson
    3. Hello, Here is a request that I forward on behalf of some of my relatives. They would be interested in finding more information about some of the brothers and sisters of their ancestors who emigrated from Sweden to the U.S. in a period from the last half of the 19th century up to about 1905. I would be grateful for any pointers to methods that could be used in order to trace the people who emigrated and their descendants. You may reply by a followup or by mail to the following adress (modify as appropriate): mikael-nospam-tele.ntnu.no Thanks in advance, Mikael Larsson
