I am trying to trace relatives in Sweden. My grandfather was called Herman Alfred Larson and emigrated to Newport [Wales] in the late 1800's. He was a marine engineer and sailor and came originally from Gothenberg. That is all I know other than when he settled in Wales he married Annie Pye from Newport. Can anyone help?. Alan

"Gladys Johnson , by way of Alf Christophersen " wrote: > > What does this word mean in connection to type of work? > Thanks. My dictionary says: hemmansägare = yeoman, freeholder, small farmer. In Swedish, 'Hemman' means homestead and 'ägare' means owner. Thus, a 'hemmansegare' is basically a small scale farmer. Andreas
Hi Charles, Have you ever heard of the Tolken 99 Translation program? It is awesome!! If you don't have it, type in Tolken 99 in a search engine and download it for free. Or I can look up the address for you. It is free for 30 days, if you decide you want to keep it is $30. It has been extremely helpful in my research. You can enter in a word, or can translate paragraphs, etc. I have no affiliation with this program, just trying to pass along helpful info. Does anyone know what countries are covered (and to what extent) in the new LDS Western European Vital Records? The LDS WWW site lists this CD-set is its on-line shop but the description is unhelpfully "description to come". Try contacting Marie Louise Bratt at this address. She helped me with a name I was looking for and has emigration records on CD-ROM. mlbratt@bridgetosweden.com Dan Lindgren
In de Winkler Prins Encyclopedie zijn onder "Denemarken" veel gegevens te vinden over het Deense Koningshuis. Andere encyclopedieen zullen ongetwijfeld ook veel informatie bevatten. In "Winkler Prins" encyclopaedy, like in other ones, many data can be found about the Danish royal family. My goodness, but this rant sounds yust like dose old records my grampa used to have. Vun in paticular I am reminded of vas called "Guri in Town", and on the back side was "Guri on the Farm". Now maybe some folks don't have a sense of humor about such things, but If they could listen to you, they might. . . . . . . . Hi Listers, Is there Swedish immigration info online? I am trying to find out when my G-Grandfather, Nils Petter Svensson, b. Nov 22, 1864 in Hernige, Ausas, Skane, Sweden immigrated to the US. I know that he was here by 1900, as he originally settled in Mandan, North Dakota and had several children there before moving to Oregon. He married Ingeborg Petrine Larsdatter Bjordal from Norway. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thank you, Debra in Portland, Oregon
