Agree with Harald, that this is not about hay, but about the situation after the Black Plague. My suggestion: "Storytellers say that some farms were empty after the black plague. People died like flies. On some farms, everyone died, on others most of the people died." Marianne

We can show this from a Royal decree from 1420. It states that when the farm is abandoned like that, it shall belong to the nearest farm. Stein N. Wisted

The second sentence is missing the full stop which is either after våg or after 1850: Odd drowned in Bergen harbor (in 1850?). (In 1850?) Jorond was married a second time to.... Regards, Elin

    3. I would like to determine the father of my grandfather, Nels Anderson. That was the name he went by here in Minnesota. His mother we know as Gunvor Endresdatter Thorstad, born 1820 in Svien, Wangs, Oppland. Nels has a give birthdate of about 1850. We believe he was illegitimate and was born in Norway. His mother emigrated in 1864 as the wife of Knut Reierson Lie. The name of the father may or may not be Anders Bjornson. Any help that anyone could give in the matter would be very greatly appreciated. You can reply off-list if you wish. Be
