    1. Icelandic pronunciation?
    2. Linda Vixie
    3. How would the Icelandic "Burnt Njal" be pronounced? Please provide it in an American English phonetic spelling, if possible. We have just opened a local 1901 time capsule with a letter from Teddy Roosevelt. He mentions reading the Saga of Burnt Njal. The letter will be read at a public gathering and we want to pronounce the name correctly. Thanks much! Linda

    3. Hi Janko ~ What do you mean by "review"? Having done genealogical research in four different countries (the other three are Germanic), I find that the Norwegians have a lot of information sources available, both on the web and in printed form. If you can narrow it down, perhaps I can suggest some sources. Greetings, John PS ~ Can you read Norwegian? There's a lot in English, but the best are in Norwegian. 3. What Pederson would that be? I am working, when I have time, on my roots. My great-great-grandfather, Lars Pederson came over from Norway in 1882 and settled in Crawford County in Wisconsin.

    3. Greetings Todd, Try this page for Skien genealogy info: http://www.slekt.org/English.html It's a great source of info. There's another page just for Gjerpen; it has church records, etc. online: http://home.online.no/%7Egstrom/ There's info on the Rønning farm there I think. I believe I have ancestors that came from the Gjerpen/Skien area, and eventually went to the Kenyon area (Goodhue Co.). They came from the Bestul farm (Anders Olsen Bestul, I think). > > Subject: Skein, Norway > Date: Sat, 23 Dec 2000 21:12:53 -0600 > From: "Todd Ronning" <ronfam@lakenet.com> > > Greetings, > > I am seeking to find a Norway birthplace referred to as Skein, Norway. 3. Do you know of any farm name attached to your Pederson? A different name, like Bakken, Nes, etc.? You need to find out where in Norway ( or ?) your Pederson came from. Do you know when this person emigrated to the US? You can find out how long he had been in the US by the US census reports, available through your local library (ask your librarian about this service). In other words, you need more clues to work with. If you know the approximate year of emigration, you can maybe find help through the Norwegian Emigration Center in Stavager, Norway. Their website is: http://www.emigrationcenter.com Lykke til!
