After many frustrating years of trying to find my Grandmothers place of birth in Norway I found the magic website. Only one shred of evidence found in 1995 led me to the vicinity and that was "Posgrunn". I read many microfilms from the area around Porsgrund to no avail. The Norwegian 1865 online census didn't do me much good either (being wriiten in Norwegian, I tried, really I did) until I stumbled across this website 2 days ago. http://draug.rhd.isv.uit.no/rhd/folketellinger_engelsk_britisk.html I plugged in her father/mothers name ( found on her Milwaukee County marriage certificate) and up jumped the census record for the family. Now I have the municipality (SOLUM) and my adventure begins anew. Armed with this parish I can get microfilms through the FHL and Bygdeboker through the library loan system. Bottom line is: Don't get discouraged Persevere, persevere, persevere Anybody else searching Solum? Would like to hear from you. David L. Johnson http://members.aol.com/borhaug

The Duluth phone book shows no surnames of Brevick. It does show 1 Brevig and a Breivik. The listings for the North Shore of Minnesota also don't reveal any Brevick's. "Yahoo" people search showed 49 Brevick's in the USA. 2 of those were in Minnesota. 1 in Osseo and another in Chatfield. Any other hints? How about a death date? Hello. Cornelisz Pietersz Jachtman was a shipmaster, he died in Riga in October or November 1687. I believe that Riga belonged to Sweden in that time. I would like to have his death certificate. Is it in the Riga archives in Russia or can I find it in a Swedish archive? Maybe in Stockholm? Kind regards Betsy -- Posted by news://news.nb.nu
Hello, My ancestors Pieter Jacobsz Jachtman and his son Cornelisz Pietersz Jachtman (died 1688) were both shipmasters from Holland. They sailed to the Baltic, mostly Riga. They had to pay the Danish Sound Toll. These sound Toll tables or registers are in the archives of Copenhagen . Who knows if these registers are accessible on line? If they are not, is it possible to write to the Copenhagen archives for information? Kind regards Betsy -- Posted by news://news.nb.nu
Hi, I just found out that my great great grand father arrived in Canada from around Tonsberg, Norway in circa 1890. Is there a way to get assistance from Norway? I would like to consult emigrants lists that were going from Norway to Quebec city, Canada. He left with two friends Henry Christian Josefsen and Gunder Olsen. Apparently he had a sister over there who possessed a mine. Carl Savard csavard@bigfoot.com Les Savard d'Amérique / Savards of America http://www.bigfoot.com/~csavard

Fikk norsk borgerbrev i 1800.
