Hallo everybody I'm doing some research on the origin of our family and the name 'Schuiki'. My ancestors have been living in the southern part of Austria for many generations. The name 'Schuiki' and its variation ('Schoiki') are very uncommon in Austria. Nobody in our family can tell where the origins of this name are and what other foreign name it might be derived from. One theory says that the name 'Schuiki' goes back to two Swedish brothers who came to Austria as soldiers and stayed in the country a few centuries ago. Much to my surprise, I found via internet that there are people in Sweden with the name of 'Schuisky' which might have a similar origin as 'Schuiki'. Now my question to the newsgroup: Does anybody know if the name 'Schuiki' or 'Schoiki' exists in Sweden? Could 'Schuiki' be a variation of another Swedish name, 'Schuisky' for example? Any answer or comment would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you very much for your help! Ernst Schuiki, Zurich, Switzerland ernstschuiki@bluewin.ch
Lykke til! http://home.world-online.no/~robbin/slektsforskning Hej so long!:)

I am trying to trace my Norwegian ancestry and so far have been reasonably successfull but I am finding a few people who do not seem to fit into the family jigsaw puzzle. The family surname is LYNNEBERG sometimes spelt as LYNEBERG in the old Norwegian census ie 1865. Can anybody help me with the following: My grandfather's sister Helga Brunhild Lynneberg had in her possession (unfortunately this has gone missing since her death in New Zealand) a diary from one of the Lynneberg ancestors who served as a colonel of artillery under Catherine the Great in 18th Century Russia. It was a copy made by a family historian who lived in Paris at the turn of the century. I am told it was written in German. I have personally seen this diary when Helga was alive but I don't remember it being in German I thought it could have been Norwegian. Can anyone throw any light on this or inform me where I could start looking for information on this missing relative. He may of course be someone I have already found but have no background information on. Any help will be appreciated. If needed I can be contacted at DLynneberg@xtra.co.nz Dene Lynneberg --

Julie, In addition to the sites given by Ron Baker, this site http://www.sffarkiv.no/fhclub/bygdaard/index.html is supposed to contain all the names in the Årdal books. I seem to miss some software, as I don't get the 'search button'. Odd

Do you know where your Andersons in Norway come from? My gg grandfather emigrated to America with most of his children, some of them called themselves Anderson. His name was Anders Larson Tre Utåker and he emigrated around 1865 (or a bit later, I have it in my papers) regards Kelly Petit
