No documentation was supplied > Any other information may be helpful: her first name and patronymic, her year of birth, her husbands name, where she lived after leaving Norway, something special that she owned, etc. Such information may narrow the search to a part of the country. "Eagle Foot" can literally be translated to (or from) "ørnefot" ("ørn"=eagle), as mentioned by others; or to "ar(n)efot" or "ar(n)afot" ("ar(n)e" = eagle"). Arne (="eagle") is a common first name in Norway, and many places have got their name after an arne. Moreover, "Eagle Foot" may also be a transcription of a Norwegian name that looks/hears like the English version (say, "Igle-", "Egle-"); or even a misinterpretation of the Norwegian name. One (remark: hypothetical) possibility is a combination: "Arnefet". Here, "fet" is a meadow, but "fet" may also (in other contexts) mean feet or footsteps. Arne is a male name which means "eagle". Then, "Eagle Foot" is not far away. Ivar S. Ertesvåg

As far as I know, 'eagle foot' (Norwegian: ørnefot / oernefot), could correspond to [ørnefot], a name/term known from the medieval scandinavian nobility. (This description may be inaccurate, but I'm sure someone will correct / supplement it). Tjøstel Nilsen, his daughter Karen/Karin(e) (dead 1584) and Tjøstel's son's son Baard Nielsen (1572-1635) carried the [ørnefot]/Skelle sign in their signets (ref.: Tore H. Vigerust - toreher@online.no, who is a Norwegian professional genealogy historician and would be able to supply information on this topic). Per Nermo nermo@online.no

    3. Dear List- According to on-line census records for Norway in 1900, my ancestor, Lina Lystad stated her birthplace as Hobbol, Ostfold in 1886. Her siblings stated Hobbol as birthplace also, but two (Emma and Ludvig) had Spydeberg crossed out. I have 3 questions: 1. I couldn't locate any ancestor names on LDS film for Hobbol, Norway. Should I try Spydeberg? Am I looking in the right place? 2. I understand the father's name was Johan Larsen (who was deceased by 1900), but all the children went by the name Lystad. This is a farm name. Does anyone know where the Lystad farm was located in Ostfold during 1880's and what parish it would be under? 3. Lina was a pleiedatter (foster-daughter) in 1900. Does anyone know the custom of this in Norway? Her mother was still living with the 2 youngest children. Would Lina's foster parents be a relative of some kind? Thank you, Researching in Trogstad, Hobbol/Spydeberg, Ostfold Norway: Larsen,Lystad, Iversen, Olsen, Olsdatter, Pedersdatter,Toresen

    3. Hei Richard, Do you have any photos that were taken of your people, while still in Finland? I had great luck with a couple of photos - on the bottom was the photographer and the name of the town in Finland where he worked. I put an "ad" in this site, and a person in Finland saw it, and said to send the query to the newspaper in the town where the photo was taken - to make a long story short, I received family trees back to the 1500's!
