    1. [GE-NORDIC] The Ottersen Holtet sisters - Wisconsin
    2. Einar Kr Holtet
    3. Hello Moorhead or Grantsburg, Wisconsin. Three sisters traveled on different occasions to America by ship (Tasso) in the middel and late 1880s. Their names were Serianne, Ingeborg and Marie Ottersen Holtet, and they were from Bardu (Salangsdalen) in Northern Norway. Searching by various modes and ways, I have so far had no success in tracing them. Who could put me on track? Best regards Einar Kr. Holtet, Oslo, Norway.

Greetings, Einar. Have you looked for them in the 1900 US Census? I am in Wisconsin, and have access to some of it (it is not yet online as yours is, sadly). If you know what county in Wisconsin they lived in, that would help a lot. If they are from a county that I can get to the films for, I will be happy to look in the index. Dave Hinz Helenville, Wisconsin n.b. Are you sure they were not here in 1880? That would be easier. Could someone in their family have come before 1880? If so, who are they? The digitalarkivet site has a listing of Norwegians in Wisconsin in 1880, which might tell me which county to look in the index.

It is an archaic term for "lodger", someone who is paying to stay there. I get this information from Otto Jorgensen's site, at: http://home.online.no/~otjoerge/files/word.htm I've got links to this, and other useful sites for genealogy, on my homepage, at: http://www.davehinz.com/genealogy/ My Norwegian section is the largest, as that is where I am concentrating my research. 1. [GE-NORDIC] Copper-smith Aleksi Laamanen
    2. Heikki J. Patrikainen
    3. Hi! I'm looking for information on my great-grand-fathers brother Aleksi Laamanen who is told to have immigrated to US or Canada, and was not heard of since. This happened at the late 19th or early 20th century. His brothers name was Viktor Laamanen who was married to Alma Laamanen (Pärnänen). He was a copper-smith (vaskiseppä) by profession. Someone on my mothers side of the family might know more, but I thought if anyone might be able to give me some clues based on even so little details. I've found many by the surname Laamanen living in the US and Canada, but couldn't tell if any of them is of the same family. Also I found several immigrants by the same surname at http://www.migrationinstitute.fi and one Aksel Laamanen, but he was 4 years old at the time. I have neither been able to find the records of Viktor and Aleksi at http://www.genealogia.fi as these records apparently have not yet been included or have been lost. I did find one Alexander Laamanen who was born in Kerimäki 1876, and another who was born in Rääkkylä 1855, but cannot be sure whether either one might be the same person. Nonetheless, as my grand-father (Veikko Laamanen) was from the parish of Kerimäki, also his father and uncle were probably from there, or from some neighboring parish (like Rääkkylä). Heikki

This is a farm quite close to more famous Harildstad farm in Heidal parish. If this is right, you should rather put Aaseng Nedre, Heidal, Oppland, Norway as the place of birth. If you could tell us the name of your grandfather I can check this with a list of emigrants from Heidal parish :-) Knut Bryn, Molde

    2. Michael Cain
    3. Having a hard time locating information on the Julia Grolid family. Looked in the on-line census and found the farms Grorli and Groland. Julia Mildred Grolid, daughter of Sigurd Olausen and Inga Eline Dahl (Ravdahl?), married Thoralf Hagen in the USA. Thoralf was born 1/17/1899 in Kvalheim, Nordfjord, Norway. Sigurd Olauson Grolid was born 2-10-1880 in Hattfjeldal, Nordland, Norway. He married Inga Eline Dahl (maybe Ravdahl). His father was Olaus, and his mother was Ingeborg Hemingsdatter, born about 1858 in Norway. I found an Ingebaar Hemmingd. born about 1862 in the 1865 census living on Grorli farm in Hatfjelddalen. Sigurd and Inga emigrated to the USA about 4/9/1902. Their naturalization records list them as Sigurd Olsen Grolid born in Grolid, Norway and Inga who was born in Revdal, Norway. Looking for information on Grolid and anything related to the above individuals (except for Thoralf; I found plenty of information on his family). Thanks, Mike
