    1. [GE-NORDIC] Parents of Nobel prize winner Lars Onsager (1903-68) ?
    2. Knut Sparre
    3. I am searching for Lars Onsager's parents. He was born in Oslo in 1903 and died in the US in 1976. He received the Nobel prize in chemistry in 1968. I know that his grandparents on his father's side were master tanner and bank manager Lars Onsager (born in Hole, Buskerud 1842, died in Drammen, Buskerud 1912) and Berte (Birte) Johanne Toverud (born in Lier, Buskerud 1847, died after 1922). Lars and Berte seem to have had at least two sons, Olaf Onsager, rentier, born in Drammen 1884, and Nils Onsager who lived in Oslo about 1927. Knut E. 3. Hi Mary! You should start in the States, find her death-cert. Maybe there is an obit for her? If she was in Loma Linda in 1925, she is listed in the census, where you also find her parents names, and, how long she had been in USA. Then you can start looking for her immigration record, where it states where she came from in Norway. Since she was born in "early 1900's, her parents will be listed in the 1900-census in Norway, which is complete on the internet at this adresses: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/index-eng.htm (where you also will find emigration-registers) and http://www.rhd.uit.no/indexeng.html I think I found her husband, Wendell McCaslin, in the SSDI-index: Birth Feb. 15. 1892 died May 1971 in Tentynine Palms, San Bernardino, CA SS#562-10-9524. If you find their marriage, it also will tell you the name of her father. But, first, you have to do some more research in USA. Happy hunting! Bonne chance! Odd Sørås

I appreciate it. There is living family in Flom, Minnesota if anyone in Norway is interested in making contact with them. They descend from Hans Hansen Korsgaden b. 1849. I also have information on Iver's family in the USA and Lars'. Feel free to contact me if anyone in Norway is searching for them. I am checking Wisonsin as I think that is where they married and had their first children. My husband also has ancestor's from Sødorp parish in Nord Fron. They were living on the Skansgaard/Skandsgaard Farm in the 1865/1875 census of Norway. There are also some other people that live in the Flom area that come from Nord Fron. Margit Johannes Brandvol wrote: Hello Margit. Hans Hansson Korsgaden was born December 5th 1849. He was son of Hans Larsson Gråsletten and Marit Olsdotter Brennhaugen. His parents married 1830. They bought Korsgaden 1838. They had 9 children: Rønnaug 1830, Anna 33, Tosten 35, Ragnhild 38, Ole 42, Marit 45, Lars 47, Hans 49, Iver 53. Lars and Hans emigrated to USA in May 1871. They are both registered as bachelors, Hans and Mary/Ronnaug therefor must have married in USA. I cannot find any Rønnaug or Mary Knutsdotter baptized or confirmed in Fron who can be the woman who married Hans. Five of the other nine children were married and have relatives in this area. Korsgaden, Brennhaugen and Gråsletten are small farms in Sødorp in Nord-Fron. I hope this answers some of your questions. Feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Johannes Brandvol

    3. Hi, My granddad, Johan Gustav Hagberg, born in Sweden (Värmland) in 1863. Somethime before 1884 he crossed the border to Norway. He married an Norwegian woman, Inger Marie Olsen. About 1888-1889, and 1900, 1903 and 1905 he has registered emmigration to USA, but he returned to Norway every time. One of his children, Emma Mathilde Johansen, was born in USA in 1889. (He later took the surname Johansen.) Does anyone have any ideas how to trace him in USA. Shiploggs tell that Boston was his destination for the three last times. But where he went from there I don't know. Best regards, Ingunn Johansen ingarnec@online.no
