Hello Carlson, GEN-NORDIC, and Minnehaha listers, I have just received copies from NARA regarding the homestead claim of a Hans J. CARLSON. He was a long shot for me, and, it seems, a miss -- he's not mine. If anyone would like to claim this fellow, let me know and I will send you the copies. It is one of the most complete files I've gotten from NARA. (This says Day Co., but the original BLM said Minnehaha). A precis of the information: Hans J. CARLSON filed his claim in the Watertown, Dakota land office 31 Mar 1882. He amended his claim and final papers were filed in 1888, by which time he was 47 (it is difficult to read because there is both a 3 and a 4, but I think the 4 is the dominant number). He had "renounced allegiance to the King of Norway and Sweden" and become a US citizen. He had a wife and one child, had been a farm laborer in Ortonville (?), Minn prior to homesteading. His post office address at the time of filing was Webster, Day Co., Dakota and he had voted in the same township for 6 years. Moved to this property 4 July 1882. Neighbors included Peter ECKER, John RESECHKE, and Alexander PISCHKE. Witnesses were Marshall PARKHILL, James ENGELHART, John SCHMIG, and James AFFLICK (paperwork only for the first two). His claim was the SE 1/4 of NW 1/4, NEW 1/4 of SW 1/4 and W 1/2 of SW 1/4, section 15, township 12172 of range 55W of the 5 meridien. 160 acres. I do hope he belongs to someone. Please let me know if he does. Kim in California kimesl@redshift.com
The following appears in an exerpt from the ownership history of the family farm in Seden. I get the gist of most of the document but these two sentences baffle me. Marta Jönsdotters syster Kerstin är gift med David Nilsson, Sik, senare Daves i Köpsgärde. Den 13 maj 1804 nedbrann gården jämte Antones. Ev. ha gårdarna då legat bredvid varandra. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Greetings Folks, I'm beginning to research the Shaw name (US) and the descendants Schou and Skou in DK. What I have so far is that my Great Grandfather was Christopher B Shaw, born in Copenhagen, in 1856. My Grandmother said that his father was a tailor to the King. I "believe" that his father may have been Christian Skou born about 1826 to Lars Schou (Born about 1797) and Elisabeth Anderson Skou (born about 1788). I have not establish a documented connection between Christopher and the Schou/Skou ancestry. What would be the best way to find this? Birth records in DK? Is anyone else on this list working on these names? Thanks for any suggestions, Wayne Clifford
My webserver suddenly went bananas, but www.reventlow.dk is online again. I have had problems with Netscape, but it should now be ok. Now covers 11.224 individuals mostly from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Schleswig-Holstein, Mechlenburg and other parts of Germany. Many members of Danish / German nobility and European royalty. Chr. D. But otherwise I would advise you to also put any inquieries on danish genealogy in the danish newsgroup dk.historie.genealogi Don't worry, most danes read and understands english pretty well and most of them also speaks and writes sufficiently. Peculiar to you it may occur that the traffic in the danish newsgroup (as also in the norwegian ones) are by far larger than in this common-scandinavian, while on the opposite the swedish national groups are hardly used at all; swedes appearently prefer to meet on web-sites and "haven't seen the light" of UseNet yet... ;-))) See you there... Albert went back to the US in 1906 and Lina and Nora in 1907. If you have the book could you tell me where for sure they were born and how do you get birth certificates or was there not such a thing? I would like to know their parents and where to get a copy of the marriage certificate. Let me know if you can help. Appreciate you reading this email Thank you Bonnie

Liv Nora! Since Sverre is found in the index for Naturalization in Minnesota, i thought you needed som information on this database: You really should send for the record, as it can contain lots of great information. Might as well have a picture. (I got one with a picture on it!) Description: Several years ago, the Iron Range Research Center purchased the entire set of microfilmed Minnesota County Naturalization Records (87 counties) from the Minnesota Historical Society. Because the record set was one of the most widely used records in the Iron Range Research Center, it quickly became apparent that the indexes to the records were incomplete and often inaccurate. Conrad Peterzen, a Research Center volunteer, resolved to make a new comprehensive index to the entire set. His index recorded the name of each person requesting citizenship and included the following information: spouse's name, county of residence, microfilm reel reference, print volume, and page number. The index also includes records of people who were denied citizenship and those who never completed the process. The present version of the index contains 57 out of the 87 counties and roughly 500,000 records. The fact that spouses are listed in the index can be especially important because before 1922, women became citizens through their husbands and did not have their own papers. This index provides the necessary information for researchers to access the original papers in the microfilm collection. The microfilmed papers contain most of the relevant genealogical information, i.e., dates and places of birth and marriage. Note: While most of the locations refer to counties, the following names are cities in St. Louis County: Virginia, Hibbing, Ely, and Duluth. Extended Description: To receive additional information and forms to access your ancestor's naturalization documents, please contact: http://www.ironworld.com/ancestry Or, to request a hard copy of the Iron Range Research Center Library and Archives Handbook, along with related forms, please send check or money order in the amount of $3.50, payable to "IRRC" and mail to: Iron Range Research Center ATTN: Naturalization PO Box 392, Hwy 169 W.
