Look in the Digitalarkivet http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/index-eng.htm if you have not already. It is a good source for census and other documents. I think the name must be "Gustav Teofilius Lind" and his birthtown could be Norrtälje (Norrtalje - with two dots over the 'a'). /regs Håkan Bergström smjacb wrote in message ... >Hello all, >I'm new to genealogy and to this group. Hello I would like to hear from anyone who might have Swedish ancestors born in Töcksmark, Värmland. Also, I would like to know about those who had some relatives who were from Töcksmark but had emigrated later to USA, and will appreciate any information about them. Thank you very much. Do you have ancestors from Alta, Finnmark County, Norway? I have now transcribed from the church book of Alta and Talvik parish those who came from Sweden\Finland to Alta\Talvik on to the web. I have also transcribed those who left the township heading for USA, this pages contains both Norwegian and Finnish\Swedes families. The new records contains over 400 names. URL: http://home.online.no/~oekon-as It is not a complete transcription since many of the pages and names is hard to read or not readable at all. Regards, Trond Ballo

Also can : you trace families though these records? My research has been in Hedmark, but I suspect it's not too different where you are looking. I've found the churchbooks to be of great use, as far as they go. Unfortunately, not many go back before about 1700. One thing to watch out for is getting bit by the "right name, but wrong person" problem. Look not only at the child's name, but also at the parents, what farm they live at (having a map helps a lot; see my homepage (link below) for links to good maps sites). Also, look at who the sponsors to the baptism were (if they're listed by your particular pastor; I think this is normally listed). As today, the sponsors are usually related (aunts & uncles), or close neighbors & friends. Have a look at the sponsors, see if they fit in with what you already know (or, they give you good leads for further expansion of the tree!). In the Ringsaker, Hedmark churchbooks, they listed the sponsors including where they lived (gardsnavn), which was quite helpful. I just wish that the pastor hadn't been running low on ink so often, and had to thin it out a LOT, making it real tough to read ;) : My grandparents came from Sor-Trondelag, Bessaker and Hofstad area. : Are the church records more accurate than the Bygdeboker? I would consider the churchbooks to be a primary record, and the bygdeboker to be secondary records; compiled from a variety of sources, probably including the same churchbooks you're looking at. This only becomes a problem if they contradict each other, in which case I'd go with the churchbooks. Keep in mind, that the date in the churchbook is probably the baptism date, rather than the birth date. It's usually days later. : Any information will be appreciated. : Thanks Bonnie Hope I've helped. Please, have a look at my genealogy pages, you may find something of use there: http://www.davehinz.com/genenalogy/ Best regards, Dave Hinz
I am researching the following couple who were married in Venjan, Dalarna: 12 mar 1882: Anders Matsson Nyström (born 12 may 1859) Brita Andersdotter (born 12 sept 1862) Their daughter, Maria, is born 23 mar 1882 in Venjan and they leave for America (Mora, Minnesota) the same year. Is anyone related to this family or know where I might find records? Michael VanBaaren E-Mail: norseman@JPS.net Sacramento, California, USA

Can anyone tell me about the material in the following: Title: Sjøinnrulleringen, 1860-1900 Authors: Norge. Forsvarsdepartementet. Kristiansand innrulleringsdistrikt (Main Author) I have the following info> In 1803 every boy, when he reached the age of 16 years, had to appear before the draft board to be registered, receive a medical examination, and receive a certificate to show that he was registered. Registers were kept of these enlistments. These registers are in four groups: 1) 16 years of age, 2) over 16 to 36, 3) over 36 to 50, and 4) over 50 (these men were recorded in "ekstra rullen"). The men were classified as: 1) able-bodied, 2) not able-bodied, 3) used to the sea, and 4) not used to the sea. These records can vary as to content but usually list: given name, surname (fathers name), age, birth place, place of residence, and often the body build and hair color. Sometimes the record contains information on the persons previous experiences on a ship such as when and where he sailed and the name of the ships. There are several types of registers: Ekstra rulle, Hoved rulle, Annotations rulle,Kommando protokoll, and Styrkelister. If a man voluntarily enlisted he was given special privileges. In times of war these sailors were required to serve in the Navy. I wonder if anyone has used this material, and could tell me if it is fairly easy to use, and if they have found it to be helpful. Thanks in advance, Carol
Hello again. Of course again i erred. The name i need the info on is Dohlen. We do know that the ggrandfather who came to the states was illegitimate. Also had some money or land. But came here because family did not want him to marry the woman he loved. Is there a bydgbok for this area i could get ? Well that would do me no good as i can only read english and cannot read that good any more. Thank you. Viola.
Hello all, I'm new to genealogy and to this group. My gggrandfather was Gustov Teotilius Lind born 10-13-1882 in Nomalye Sweden. (North of Stockholm) Move to Karlstad in 1894 and left Sweden in 1898 "sailed for Montreal and from there to america, arriving in griggs county greenfield township 6-30-1899" (ND) Several moves later married Charlotte Forsberg in 1906 I think back in ND. (Hannahford if I had to guess). So I can't find Gust name anywhere - ship list, immigration and frankly can afford to pay for the census. Did he come to america only, who were his parents (or charlottes for that matter) any siblings? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Michelle

Is someone capable to find for me: Thoger Larse Holm, born Thisted around 1745, (banemester) married Stromso 1-6-1775 with Christine Olsadtter, born Tonsberg 1753, daughter of Ole Fanoe and Anna Catharina Johansdatter. Look for more details as: parents, brother sisters, dates. Don't even know where to start my search, is there any source on the internet to find? Any suggestions please? see my homepage (almost everything Dutch) http://www.homepages.hetnet.nl/~duifjes2/index.html

In 1900 there were 21 Døhlen in Nannestad, Akershus, 10 in Gjerpen, Telemark, 2 in Tune, Østfold and 1 in Kristiania. In addition there was 1 Døhlem (MOST likely a misspelling) in Kristiania.
