Hello, I am new to the group and researching names from the Vinger, Hedmark Norway area. Farms include: Aeserud, Brakarlsvalet, Ostgaarden, Ousbul, Torp, Nyetorpet, Udgaarden, Ellingsgrud, The Tongs and Mangnes, . Area includes Eidskog, Hoff, Vinger, Grue, Ostby. The family that immigrated to Nova Scotia that started this research is the Waller family. One family also comes from Vastaberget, another from Kartbraten and Austmarken. Lots of confusing information that I will share. Any assistance appreciated. John Broderick Jackson, TN
Peter and Marten Cassel (about 1540 to 1645) My great-great-grandfather was Peter Cassel (1790-1857) who was known for being the leader of the group which established the first Swedish farming settlement in Iowa in 1845. I just joined the DISBYT Swedish database at http://www.dis.se/denindex.htm and there I found a family tree for him going back to another Peter Cassel who was born in Scotland in about 1540 but died in Sweden. He had two sons, Onnert and Martin. Martin Persson Cassel was born in Scotland or possibly England in 1592 and died in Sweden in 1645. In 1625, he married and they had two sons, Jonas and Jakob. Jonas Martensson CASSEL is the 7th great grandfather of Samuel Howard SLOAN. I have found references to Peter Cassel and to his son Marten Persson Cassel on several genealogy websites. However, I cannot find anything about these people except for their genealogy. Are these people known to history? Has anybody heard of them? I ask because I believe that family records were not routinely kept that far back, so the fact that their names show up in several places might mean that they are known for something. Please note that there are other persons with similar names from a similar time period from England, Germany and even America. What distinguishes this Peter Cassel and his son from the others is that they were born in Scotland and died in Sweden, which, I believe, was unusual at that time. I am also wondering if they may have left wives and children behind in Scotland when they went to Sweden. Any ideas or information anybody has about this would be appreciated. Sam Sloan

I am trying to trace Elizabeth Frederickson (possibly Fredericsdtr). She came to America in 1862 or 1863 arriving only with her daughter Carrie (Possibly Kari). She left with a husband possibly named Knud who died at sea also one or two other children died at sea. I have a strong suspicion they are from Kvindherred, Hordaland, Norway. Possibly on or near a farm Huuse Aasevig, another farm name possibility is Tveit. The IGI shows a Lizabeth Fredriksdtr marries Knud Knudsen 13 April 1857. Their daughter Kari was Christened 6 October 1861. Elizabeth arrived in America poor and became housekeeper for my great great grandfather Jonas Omundson Jorstad. Is there anyone with a bygedbok that could check this. Thanks Garry Husum

Hello, I am a newbie to the group. I'm researching several families, below, who emigrated from Sweden in the 1860s and settled in Rockford, Illinois. I have located the children's families on the Illinois censuses back to 1880 but have not found any of the parental units although we are fairly sure they emigrated (from family photos taken in Illinois). I don't know the points of entry to the US, and haven't even begun to research Swedish resources. Would love to hear from anyone familiar with these names. Thanks, Ingrid 1) My SALEN ancestors who emigrated in 1869, possibly from Sorlsbye, West Gotland, Sweden. Hei!

If you know anything about Danish-German history you might know that this part of Denmark belonged to Schleswig/Prussia 1864-1920 Inger
Listers, Next week my car is spending an entire day at the dealership undergoing it's 20M mile check-up. They offered to shuttle me to the location of my choice and of course I picked the university. If you were considering asking for an obit lookup, now's the time! Check out the list of resources on my web site and let me know if I can help. I have a copy of the 1912 "Stamtavle over Slægten Wolf" by L.J. Bøttiger that's missing page 79 and 80. If someone has access to the book and a scanner I would love a copy of these 2 pages. Email me off list to work out details. I also have the 1929 and 1992 editions, so if someone needs a Danish Wolf looked up, I can do that. Please email privately--I don't always see all the postings to the newsgroup. Christina
I was hoping that someone could help me locate a person in Liverpool around 1900. (Was there a census around then) I am searching for information regarding a Norwegian named John Albert Henrichsen, b. 1851. I have located him in the British Census in 1881 through FamilySearch, where he works as an interpreter for a German called Emel Wilhelm L. Koplin. This Mr. Koplin was probably running some kind of inn or hotel located at 1&2 Kent Square, Liverpool, Lancashire. In the 1881 census the Norwegian is registered as John A. Henricksen, please note the spelling. According to information passed on in the family, John Henrichsen should have been running a hotel for emigrants in Liverpool in the end of the 1800. He seem to have returned to Norway around 1901 or 1902. All and any information regarding John and his activities in Liverpool would be appreciated. Regards, Aud Sandbu
