Does anyone know how to find out the destination of the Cunard ship that left Bergen on 25th March, 1901? A guess is Hull, England, but I am not certain. According to www.norwayheritage.com, Cunard Lines' own records are lost: "We are missing departure information on the ports of Bergen and Stavanger 1867 - 1925." TIA. Sigurd

I would think, if most genealogy enthusiasts were asked, a great majority want to make a trip back to the ancestral homeland. This kind of sharing is most definitely ON topic, and posts like mystery person "nospam"'s only serves to discourage others from feeling they can SHARE this useful information with the rest of us. Nospam should take a look at Cyndi's List ... one of the premier genealogy sites on the internet ... she has a whole category devoted to travel and genealogy. Wake up! I would hope anyone else who has similar experiences to share would feel free to do so without the threat of being chastised. I'll also ditto Dave's comments. :) "[email protected]" <[email protected]> wrote in message news:[email protected] > In article <BB0984AA.579E%[email protected]>, [email protected] (Margit) wrote: > > Margit's trip to Norway, parts 1, 2, and 3, do not seem appropriate > postings for the genealogy news group. Good morning - - A valuable resource is: <http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/wc/webcens.exe?slag=meny&spraak=e> I searched the 1880 Wisconsin Census in the "Norwegians in America" category and Trondheim departures in the "Registers" heading under "Emigrants" with no result. When searching I've learned it's better not to completely spell out the names. Better to give the first couple of letters. There are just too many variations. Good luck in your search. Ed Eide
Hello amphin, I have learned years ago not to take serious any postings by anyone who does not have the common sense to sign their emails with their name. Sorry you feel the way you do, but this is a Gen Nordic List, which includes all the Nordic/Scandinavian Countries. I just visited one and thought some may benefit and contact me off list with their comments. Guess you chose not to for some reason only known to you. ;-) Margit > From: [email protected] ([email protected]) > Date: Fri, 13 Jun 2003 18:30:04 GMT > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [GEN-NORDIC] Margit's Norway Trip Report Part#3 and the end :-)) > Resent-From: [email protected] > Resent-Date: Fri, 13 Jun 2003 12:43:35 -0600 > > In article <BB0984AA.579E%[email protected]>, [email protected] (Margit) wrote: > > Margit's trip to Norway, parts 1, 2, and 3, do not seem appropriate > postings for the genealogy news group. Hi Monica, Knud Halvorsen Finstad born in Rendalen, Østerdalen, Hedmark, Norway, emigated to Amerika (Wilson, Wisconsin) 21. of May 1880 with the 'SS Angelo' from Oslo. He is 23 years old at this time. Regards Inge "monica" <[email protected]> wrote in message news:[email protected] > Hi, > > My family records state my Greatgrandfather, Knute H. That's the nice thing about subject lines, isn't it? That you can decide what to or not to read based on them? As someone who is a couple years out from making a very similar trip for genealogical research, I found it interesting and useful.

I'm looking for information on a John A. Peterson who immigrated to Wisconsin c1878 (1900 census was hard to read). He was born c 1857 in Trondheim, Norway. Settled in Waupun, Fond Du Lac County, Wisconsin. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Karen Peterson

Seeking information about Ludvik Martin Kallhovde, who emigrated to America in the 1890-1900s. Ludvik was born in 1879 i Masfjorden, Norway. His parents were Mons Jetmundson Høsteland Kallhovde (b. 1850) og Gjertrud Sjursdatter Fjelde (b. 1856), Masfjorden. Any pointers would be appreciated. Sigurd Kallhovde San Diego, California

Andre pakta bort garden i perioder. <http://www.stud.ntnu.no/studorg/laget/web/kernel.php?mfil=8&valg=0&mip=1&lang_info=&vis_stemmer=&hfil=./html/berg.html> Hovudbygningen som står i dag vart bygd i 1851-52. Bygningen ligg i ein park med villaområde omkring, like ved hovudkampus for universitetet (NTNU). Ivar S. Ertesvåg (vaktmeister på Berg Prestegård 1984-1989)

There is no Ovedal listed per se. Ovedal is spelled Aavedal in the 1801 census, and Åvedal on maps of today. The pronunsiation is the same as Ovedal.
Hi Linda, I live near Clay County, what townships are these located in? (They all have names) Have you found their death certificates?? Try here for parents names on death certificates, it will cost you money to get their death certificates. :-)) <http://people.mnhs.org/dci/> You need to do searches on American information available, before jumping across the pond to Scandinavia. Without more information, it is hard to help you in Scandinavian countries, if that is where you are searching. Dear Margit, Well actually my goal is to try to find Julius Heaer's descendants. :-) I have already traced great great grandma's Grimsrud family back 200 years in Norway. I was hoping to find Heaer cousins who might have family stories, pictures or documents. Also I'd like to find out where gr. gr grandma is buried. (I'm not sure Heaer is a real name though.) I will try to find out the township names. Thanks. Margit wrote: > > Hi Linda, > I live near Clay County, what townships are these located in? Venlig hilsen Vibeke Worm Blegdammen 23A DK-4000 Roskilde
Dear List members, My ancetor Karen Grimsrud was living with her son-in-law (on the 1880 census) Julius Heaer age 28 farmer from Norway T 142 R 46 Clay Co. Minnesota. On one census site his surname was spelled Fleaer and on the other it was spelled Heaer. Has anyone ever heard of either of these names?! Any guesses what it ought to be? Thank you for any help! Any ideas, suggestions; My records say he was > born Aug 22, 1865, and that he immigrated in 1880. "Finstad" is a common farm name in Norway, and hence a widespread surname. "Asterdalen" used in this connection is probably refering to a parish or region rather than a city. The ending "-dalen" means "the valley". I don't think "Asterdalen" is found as a name of any valley in Norway, but it might be a little wrong for "Østerdalen" (or "Österdalen" if you like). This is one of the main valleys in Southeastern Norway. In this valley there are Finstad farms at least in these parishes: Elverum, Øvre Rendalen, Sollien, Storelvdal. I suppose your greatgrandfather's initial 'H' means that he was a son of a 'Hans', Harald', 'Halvor' or another Christian name starting with 'H'. In the 1865 census I found Hans Pedersen (Finstad) living at Finstad in Elverum. He was 35 years old and had a son, Tollef, who was 3 years old. Perhaps he got another son in 1865? There might be other alternatives, but I would have checked the Elverum church books for 1865. I will add that the emigration protocols from Oslo shows that a Knud Halvorsen Finstad from Rendalen in Østerdalen emigrated in 1880. However, he was 23 years of age and therefore too old to be your greatgrandfather if your information about his birth is correct. Regards from Knut Bryn, Molde
