    3. To Connie and "Everyone" who has replied to my query concerning finding free books. I can't believe the wonderful comments and help that this topic generated. Because of "all of you." I have put into my favorites the sites you have recommended and the blogs and have my first "free book" and am like a child in the candy store! I love books - my world, and it looks like your world as well, would be so empty and dull without a good book to feast upon. Like many of you I also said that I would never want an e-reader because I honestly do love the feel of a great book in my hand. But! Like many of you my old hands hurt when I try to hold onto a big heavy book for too long. However, I will not give up going to the library on occasion and bringing home a "real" book so I don't forget that wonderful experience of reading and feasting the old fashion way. And! There is nothing greater than walking into my city library to pick out a book. There is that certain library smell and atmosphere that simply feels wonderful to me. Hey, with my Kindle and my city Library I can have it both ways. Thanks again, you all are such good people on this list. I love you and wish you a Happy New Year. So I sure need to look over their site before I go for any more bargains. > > > > ******************** > >

    3. I would like to "second" that! I hadn't been paying close attention, as Kindle is not (yet) on my must-have list, but this weekend went to visit the g-kids (and their parents, of course). The eight and the ten year old (boys) got Kindle-fire for Christmas. Whew! Learning curve anyone? Thanks to the comments on this list, I was able to help a little bit (I was helping the Mom, not the kids) figure out the vagaries of "Kindle Owners Library" as well as accessing books through their public library, and the whole "cloud" thing. They have "amazon prime" so more books are free to "borrow." And maybe "keep" -- still unsure about some of that. I'm going to take all the additional information from these emails and post it to them for their use. No, they don't do genealogy, but they sure do read a lot of books! By the bye, the only thing I didn't like about the Kindle Fire is the weight. One of the reasons I'd like a Kindle is that it's easier to read than a large, fat, book. This was no great improvement. So, if I do get one, it'll be the more basic model. Too bad they don't make the basic model with a screen size like the Fire!
