Oh the family "stuff". I had been told the story of my great great grandfather who married a black lady after his first wife died and was therefore ostracized by the old family. I was never able to find much about him until a few years ago and then I found out that he had actually married a Black Irish lady far different from the story the family told me. At this point I was able to find more information and this led to finding out that I had cousins in whose home I had been to do repair work in the early 60's and did not know they were related. Unfortunately it was too late to ask questions as by this time they had all passed away and that was a shame to me that I missed the opportunity to learn more.I think the other reason the family stuck to their story was that this lady had been a Roman Catholic and that did not sit well with an old Presbyterian family..........LOL.....boy would they dislike me too as I became a High Anglican. Thanks Marilyn and Pat for bringing up the "family tradition" * Jim Hope* On 05/01/2012 10:22 AM, Kith-n-Kin wrote: > Ah, yes, the beloved "family tradition" as the end-all (and substitute) for > the "truth." > >
