Elaine, I keep getting a message to update my JAVA and to first uninstall the old version (which I didn't even know I had). I tried uninstalling it, but it was still there. I use a 64 bit laptop with Vista and followed the instructions for the 64 bit, but then it said it is unavailable for that version. I remember someone saying some time ago not to remove JAVA (just disable it) but to keep JavaScript which I don't think I have. I'm totally confused. Also, I've been very happy with my Vista and hope that something more user friendly than Windows 7 or 8 will come out for my 70 year old mind. Thanks for any help. Sallyg
I removed Java and don't miss it. I am aware many people say all one needs to do is disable it. If I am not using something I see no value in letting it take up space. Instructions are below for removal for Vista. Make sure you have all versions of it removed from your computer (uninstalled, not deleted). Elaine Older versions of Java may appear in the program list as J2SE, Java 2, Java SE or Java Runtime Environment. Windows 7 and Vista - Uninstall Programs Click Start Select Control Panel Select Programs Click Programs and Features Select the program you want to uninstall by clicking on it, and then click the Uninstall button. You may need administrator privileges to remove programs. Excess on occasion is exhilarating. It prevents moderation from acquiring the deadening effect of a habit. --W.
