What version is compatible with Firefox?? and how do you find out what you are using? Maybe mine is not the right version or I need an older FF. The last I remember seeing at one time was that I needed to install Google Chrome to be able to use Gmail, but I didn't want to as I have used FF for years. Dianna

Yes, I wish I knew how to find the version of Gmail. I have not been able to do that. All other programs have the version listed under Help/About --- Since you are not able to get the settings you want, maybe there is something in Win8? I cannot comment on that, as I have 7.
