As clunky and non-standard as AOL is, AOL keeps e-mails both on the web and on one's computer. So if one is away from home or on another computer, one can access one's mail on the web. If at home on the "main" computer and using the downloaded AOL program, one can be off line and still access mail stored on the computer and compose mail. One can have up to 1,000 e-mails stored on line per folder, but I'm exceeding that now by a dozen or so but don't want to push my luck. Woody, This is exactly how I feel about AOL and have moved several times to differently states and continued to keep it. When away from home and even out of the country, I can access AOL with my laptop very easily and all the information I needed from it. I use windows live mail, but I never used it through windows live. I just downloaded ,configure it to go to ATT and get my mail. It give me an option to add another account( currently have 4 accounts), and have it set to save a copy on the server. It works almost exactly like winmail and OE of xp days, without the security hassles of OE, I had AOL for dman near 10 yrs as it was all I could get out here. When DSL became available I found and open source program that I used to import all my old aol emails and accounts and converted them to oe. Had over 600GB of mail and attachements. Spent a bunch atime getting rid of a lot of useless drivel and attachements ads and gif( remember them haha) burned everything to a dbl layer blue ray and recovered the drive space. every once -n-awhile I go look through it and wonder why I kept some of the stuff.. I guess I just don't understand why people don't use the win live mail app as it is a free download and is so similar to OE and Outlook.. Hi George, So you use Windows Live Mail. I'm being forced out of WinXP and OE Express, and was leaning heavily to using Win Live Mail. I had been saving my OE Express files in a "My documents" subdirectory so I can back them up easily with the rest of the files in "My Documents". At first I thought that couldn't be done with Windows Live Mail, which made me look for alternates that could. However, more search gives a "how-to" web page that says Win Live Mail's storage folders can be changed to an specified, easy to find place after all. Here's the "how-to". http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/change-email-folder-location-in-windows-live-mail/ Woody PS: AOL has just changed it's huge "Your mail has been sent" page (from Nomorerack) to different advertising that wants me to take care of my hair. -----Original Message----- From: george <briard6pack@att.net> To: gen-newbie <gen-newbie@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sun, Feb 23, 2014 10:34 pm Subject: Re: [GN] nomoreracks I use windows live mail, but I never used it through windows live. Woody: Yep just down load win live mail,,just don't create a windows live account. The set up is just about identical to OE and includes a calendar.. I have been using it that way since Win7 came out. If you have a lot of folders in your old OE and accounts, I suggest you creat your accounts first. than transfer the individual folder 1 at a time.. I seem to remember that the first time I tried to import the mail II everything dumped intp one in box..don't rmeber exactly what I did to correct it, but I di find away to get the old messages to go into indiviual files just like they were store...Hell it was so olong a go that may not even be a problem Don't remember exactly what I used to convert AOL mail and addresses or favorites from my my AOl days, but it was a free open-source program . Bleeping computer and Major geeks are both great sites for info and help..Yes I did sit at their help desk for subscribers, and have more than once been asked to rejoin the team,,,I really don't have the time to do that anymore.More people should browse their forums,,,a lot of good stuff in there,,,who knows, you might even turn part geek and gronk right along with the rest of us... cheers George & the SixPack -----Original Message----- From: Woody Woodworth Sent: Monday, February 24, 2014 12:28 AM To: gen-newbie@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GN] nomoreracks Hi George, So you use Windows Live Mail.
