Wanda No idea what the "default" is, but I suspect that is something with 1.15 paragraph spacing ( listed in the chart as "before" and "after," the amount of space between one paragraph and another), and line spacing (the spacing that occurs when you type a line that wraps to the next line). The minimum is .6, which you will have to type in), In the Paragraph spacing, clicking the down arrow at right, you have the choices you describe. Set the "before and after" spacing to "0" and the Line spacing to "single" and then click on "set as default." IF that is what you want to use. IF that is not what you want, make it the way you want it, but be sure to click on "Set as Dafault." That will fix that problem. Your other problem, of the fonts and sizes, is fixed (near as I've been able to work out) by using the styles. Saving the modified "normal" style makes it come up with the "new" fonts and sizes. I did this and now have Times New Roman, 12 as the default style for "normal." So, "styles" fixes fonts and size (and color and many other things), while the only way to fix a new default for the line and para spacing is through the "paragraph" button.
